So I have the scientific atlanta 3250, hd non-dvr box. My tv supports hdcp but the dvi port only outputs to 1080i. Is this the same on all of this model, all twc boxes, just this particular 3250, what? Does anyone know of a non-dvr (or dvr if that's the only one) hd box that does 720p over dvi? 7/22/2006 2:16:36 AM |

goto setup and change the output format so that a dot only shows up next to 720p.. you can leave 480i on as well if your tv does better upconversion than the box for standard channels 7/22/2006 2:29:05 AM |

I've found that 1080i downconverted to 720p by the TV somehow looks better than the straight 720p output.
But, what Wolfrules set should work. 7/22/2006 2:54:28 AM |

no, it doesn't work that's why I made the thread. everytime I select 720p and uncheck 1080i, when I choose "accept" it reverts to 1080i. 7/22/2006 11:59:56 AM |

you may have a bad box.. i know for a fact that the SA8300HD (HD DVR) does push all 4 formats out. the 3250 should as well..
I will also have to agree with moron. If you have an HDTV that outputs 720p, but accepts 1080i, go with a 1080i output on the box. The TV will do a much better conversion than the box will ever do. It's amazing the difference you'll see. The sharpness of the video just isn't there with the STB conversion.

weird... i have an 8300HD, and I think the output @ 720p looks best.
to each their own, I guess. 7/25/2006 9:35:48 AM |

it looks like shit on my tv because it is an lcd and it tries to display at the resolution it is fed. everything looks like it's in bad need of antialiasing and blurry. I think I'm going to trade in the box and hope to get one with a newer firmware 7/25/2006 12:09:37 PM |

^^ I guess it all depends on the TV and the type of technology it uses. 7/26/2006 7:20:58 PM |
