Robert Ford joins Jesse James's gang, only to become resentful of the legendary outlaw and hatch a plan to kill the fastest gun in the West.

Trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/theassassinationofjessejames/trailer1a/

The Assassination of Jessee James by the Coward Robert Ford has Brad Pitt as Jesse James and Casey Affleck as Robert Ford. Also featuring Zooey Deschanel, Mary-Louise Parker, Sam Rockwell, Garret Dillahunt (the droop-eyed cocksucker and Wolcott from Deadwood), and Sam Shepard. There's not much to see in the trailer yet, but it looks promising. Directed by Andrew Dominik, who wrote and directed the scary-looking Chopper. Music by Nick Cave, whom I hate. But he did The Proposition, which kicked ass.

I for one have always liked a good western....

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Tombstone to name a couple.

what is up with this release pattern? Its only in 294 theatres nationwide according to boxofficemojo.com

i just saw that it is playing at my local theatre but with only two showtimes each day.

what is the reason for such a limited, unhyped release?

^dude, Lars and the Real Girl is a pretty awesome movie too

^^this movie is being released in a similar fashion as a lot of movies these days. Instead of going for a wide release right away (2,500+ screens) it does so in stages. This way here they can better judge how many prints of the film to produce based on how popular it is. It costs a lot of money to make a print (the actual film that gets delivered to theaters) Every weekend just doubling the amount of screens its on.. This also builds up word of mouth (see Borat or Dreamgirls and the insane amount of money those films did)

Unfortunately I don't see this movie expanding a whole lost unless it's gonna start generating some money. So I can see this movie being stuck in limited release and not going much further.

As to why it is only playing twice a day at your local screen...
It's a long movie. Most theaters will only play it 3 times a day (such at crossroads). Anytime a movie is over 2.5 hours long most theaters will play two matinees and one evening show. How many screens does your local theater have? More than likely it is sharing the screen it is playing on with another movie. so both movie will have two shows a day, or the other movie might just have one...

that's all i got

^^good info. that is ultimately what i thought (about the stages of release, ala Brokeback Mountain and what you named).

I didn't realize the movie was 2hr 40min until after I posted. My theatre is 24 screens, but i'm sure they only have one copy of film so twice a day is probably spot on.

hmm, yeah, if they have 24 screens they must be sharing screens with something else for it not to be playing 3 times. which sucks, because its not like there are that many movies out there. Crossroads only has 20 screens and can dedicate a screen to this movie by itself, so...

24 screens? which movie theater?

The only reason I go out there is to the movies and occasionally the horrible mall. The traffic there and the people negotiating it are retarded. I can't stand the mall. If you decide to eat at one of the chain resturants out of convenience, you most likely have a couple hour wait--so it isn't worthwhile. Who the hell waits 2 hours to eat at the olive garden??? With the off chance you do get a short wait, you are sorrounded by bumbling morons (wait staff and patrons).

Going to the movies there has always yeilded a bad experience, too.

Not to mention, the race track is there. It's responsible for "rednecks invade tryon st", terrible traffic 2 times a year, and general annoyances.

Did I mention that people there are exponetially worse at driving?

What a great movie. WOW!

I have been listening to the soundtrack for a few years now and had never seen the movie.

Good call, simonn!

The casting director, Mali Finn, casted many well known movies. She died in 2007.

every time i try to watch this, i get bored or fall asleep. Which is not the norm for me. I have no problem with slower stuff usually. I just can't get through/into this.

Is there a certain point in the movie when you really start to get engaged?
