I know this thread has been done a lot of times, but I am looking for a digital Camera (pref Canon) for my parents, and was wondering what your opinion was on what's out there.

If we link to other websites for advice then theres really no point for any thread because for every question asked theres probably a website for it.
But how dare someone ask for opinions. 7/30/2006 4:46:07 PM |

Maybe you should shut the hell up smcrawff. It's one thing to ask about a specific product.
It's another to come here and ask because you are too fucking lazy to do your own research. That website has the indisputable answer to his question and he knows it.
And if there's a website to answer a question directly, why the fuck not post it instead of dragging the thread out? 7/30/2006 4:58:28 PM |

Point is I already know about that website...and I am not looking at what it has to offer.
I am looking at something for my parents, and thus the considerations are different, which any non Google-jerking person would realize.
But I like that you're on top of your game, Mr AllNoeng 7/30/2006 5:16:17 PM |

what special conditions are there that you cant find on that site?
Seriously they tell you EVERYTHING about the camera's, usability, features, use and all. They give you all the info you need for novice users, intermediate and advanced. I don't know what else you are expecting. 7/30/2006 5:36:18 PM |

Don't want to take sides and I don't mean to ignore any comments (cause Noen has helped me a lot in the past and I have nothing against anyone else here), but I'd say the best choice would be the Canon S2 IS if you prefer Canon. It doesn't retail for $250, but it's been on sale lately for around $250. I own the S2 and it's just about the most versatile camera out there (aside from its successor the S3 IS).

I'm typically a review whore when it comes to buying electronic products, but I didn't have much luck with digital cameras.
The first thing is to decide if you want a point and shoot camera or an ultracompact.
If you want a point and shoot, the Canon PowerShot A620 isn't a bad choice.
Despite conflicting reviews, I bought the Canon PowerShot SD550.. It's decent, but unfortunately the red-eye is obnoxious and I'm not a huge fan of the menus. The Sony Cybershot cameras are always an option; they just look silly. 7/31/2006 9:40:31 AM |

A buddy of mine suggested the Sony W-50. How's that compare to the Canon S2? Anyone had experience with either? 8/18/2006 9:23:46 PM |

^^I got a Canon A620 off newegg for about $250, and it came with a free 1gb memory stick. It works really well, I like it. 8/19/2006 6:04:04 PM |

I have the sony W-50, and for the $250 it has served me very well. for a compact digital camera, its about as good as you'll get in that price range. it won't rival a digital SLR, but most people don't need that. 8/22/2006 10:23:26 AM |
