I know that TWW has a lot of regular surfers, so maybe there are some windsurfers as well! I took lessons yesterday and it was a lot of fun! I would like to maybe rent some gear next time I'm at the Outer Banks, to see if it's a hobby I want to take up.
Can anybody offer some advice for a beginner? If I end up buying my own equipment I hope I can get all the stuff used for $200-500. Also I have a lot of friends & relatives in Wilmington, so if you can recommend good locations to surf around there that would be great!
Thanks guys! 7/31/2006 4:10:58 PM |

The place across from the Blockade Runner on Wrightsville Beach used to have rentals. Haven't been there in a while, but they'd be a good place to start. 7/31/2006 7:12:36 PM |

They now just rent kayaks now. But it is also were they pick you up for a kiteboarding lesson since they share the same building. 7/31/2006 8:14:47 PM |

I don't think I like the sound of kiteboarding, it seems too uncontrolled 8/1/2006 4:12:42 PM |

Having only kiteboarded and wakeboarded and not kitesurfed or plain surfed I can't give a total assesment, but I do know that in the proper wind conditions that I have a lot more control than I did while wakeboarding. Plus you can control where the kite is positioned thus controling the direction in which you are being pulled. With a wakeboard you are only pulled forward and slightly up. I HIGHLY recommend giving it a try.

wrightsville beach is cool and you can go to http://www.wblivesurf.com for a daily surf report...
topsail beach isn't too far from wilmington maybe like 30 minutes. there you can go out sindsurfing or whatever anywhere, pretty much, and there won't be near as much of a crowd as wrightsville... 8/10/2006 10:01:11 AM |

if ur a beginner, start off with an inflatable board. it really helps you stabilize and get your grounds, and they can go fast too if the wind is right. Plus, u can deflate it and fit it in your car! it was reaaally easy to do and u will rarely fall unless its really choppy 8/14/2006 5:41:01 PM |
