I'd love to do this, just b/c y'all handled the Big Ticket website 2 years ago, but my skills aren't up to par. I'm good w/ XHTML, CSS, cross-platform and 508 accessibility (had to redesign the Wake Co Clerk's Office website for that reason) -- but PHP knowledge is limited, and beyond that is even worse.
If you guys ever need a lobbyist though, I'm your guy 8/2/2006 7:22:06 PM |

I am kinda interested as a part time gig, but is the onsite training necessary? 8/2/2006 8:33:11 PM |

yeah seems like a decent opportunity.
according to your posting I'd be qualified, but according to the company's site i'd feel underqualified.
it seems like a lot is required for experience to start at 8 bucks an hour. 8/2/2006 10:55:52 PM |

Perhaps the job description covers too much. The position is designed for someone with little to no knowledge of web development. We're looking for someone who is extremely interested in learning the in and outs of web development, programming, and web-based software design. While it would be easier to hire someone with experience in the field, we are also trying to fine tune our programming and development training sessions - so we want to start with someone who will benefit from the sessions. On-site training is required. It doesn't mean you'll be sitting in classes all day. It just means that you will probably meet with a project manager one or two nights out of the week and work on existing and upcoming projects to help you get a feel for how our operating systems & development techniques work. Although the position is based out of Morrisville/RTP - anyone living in the Raleigh/Durham area is a good candidate. Our project managers spend a lot of time "in the field" meeting with clients and going on-site IT assessments (I just spent 3hrs in downtown Raleigh doing an on-site assessment). To make a long story short - initially it's not a very demanding position, but as you progress through training and start getting raises and all that fun stuff - the demands increase with the work load. Scheduling is very flexible. If you have classes or other weekly responsibilities, just let us know so we can work around it. Easy job, nice perks, and you get to work with me all the time. Hit me up on AIM (newparadox03) if you have more questions.

Noen thanks for the props. Chris and Joe always have "other" things going on - which is why I am hiring someone else - LOL. Just kidding guys. No seriously...
To answer some questions I've gotten via PM and email, we are not hiring based on experience as much as we are hiring based on willingness to learn, availability, and passion for all things web related. If you think of web development as "fun, innovative, and exciting" or you love a "challenge" and you can work well with "deadlines".. that's what we are looking for. The upside is that you get paid for it - and that's cause I know nobody wants to work for free --- even if you like what you're doing. And hey, I'd take a job where I get a spiffy new laptop & I get to work from home. 8/3/2006 9:42:05 AM |
