Hey Sals, you have allies on teh far left just so you know.

I caught a few minutes of the national news last night. To paraphrase:
Thousands of Israeli troops cross the border into Lebanon as Hezbollah intensifies their attack on Israel by launching more rockets than they ever have in the past. As Israeli troops came across the border hundreds of rockets bound for Israel were fired over the heads.
Did they slant the way they reported the news? Probably. The net effect for me sure did clear up any debate on whether or not Hezbollah is a terrorist group. They had military targets right there and purposely chose civilian targets.
I'd probably rather be called a "Capitalist Democrat" than a "terrorist supporter". I'm really not sure what kind of insult that was supposed to be anyway.

Subtle difference between lying and being in such a rush to get the scoop that you report misinformation. It's not like they knew the miners were dead and turned around and reported the opposite, but I guess it is lying - if you want to look at it that way. 8/3/2006 11:00:58 AM |

Look, Anderson Cooper wouldn't lie to us. He was the host of the reality show "The Mole". He's the son of railroad heiress Gloria Vanderbilt, a true man of the streets. He was even a judge on "Iron Chef". A man this serious about the news wouldn't lie to us. 8/3/2006 11:01:45 AM |

It was also disproved that wealthy people amass their fortunes through luck, large salaries, advanced degrees, or supreme intelligence" |

People say things like "very few millionaires are self made" because they don't bother to look into the matter. The Millionaire Next Door is an excellent book, and its a staple for financial advisors to read. 8/3/2006 11:39:39 AM |

ha I would like to know what percentage of the "80% of millionaires" have an income even close to Mr. Cooper. Shit my dad most likely will have over one million dollars on paper when he retires but that doesnt mean shit today. Im not attacking Americans ability to make money but attacking Anderson Cooper for being related to Gloria Vanderbilt and having a mom who made jeans is border line retarded.8/3/2006 1:44:05 PM |

I think the definition of millionaire should be changed. Having a net worth of around one million dollars isn't shit anymore (relatively speaking). The definition of a millionaire should be someone that makes over a million a year, imo at least. 8/3/2006 1:49:03 PM |

It's funny how you never mention Fox News in that same sentence. I can remember watching the reporter on Fox (Donna Fiducia), complaining about her mascara because she started crying tears of joy (Geraldo was crying too, but I doubt he had any mascara on him). I can't tell you how many times they were saying it was a miracle. That was before I saw it on CNN. Here's some of the exchange:
Quote : | "Donna Fiducia: This is a Fox News Alert. I'm Donna Fiducia in New York. We're gonna go right to the Sago Mine in West Virgina, where Geraldo Rivera is joining us live on the phone with the latest. Geraldo, what do you have?
Geraldo: OH! THERE IS INCREDIBLE JOY THROUGHOUT THIS COMMUNITY! THEY'RE ALL SAYING THE SAME THING! THAT EVERYONE (unintelligible) HAVE BEEN FOUND ALIVE! THE MINERS ARE ALIVE! THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING THING! WE GOT HERE AND ALL WE SAW WERE JOYOUS FACES! EVERYONE IS SAYING THAT THEY HAVE FOUND THE MINERS ALIVE! IT IS UNBELIEVABLE! IT IS UNBELIEVABLE!
Fiducia: Geraldo, who told you this? Did you hear this from family members --
Geraldo: EVERYONE! EVERYONE! ALL OF THE MINERS' FAMILIES! EVERYONE! THERE IS JOY SPREADING THROUGHOUT THE PLACE! THERE'S (unintelligible) HEAR IT IN THE BACKGROUND, DONNA! THIS IS REAL! THEY ARE TELLING THE FAMILIES THAT ALL 12 OF THE OTHER MINERS HAVE BEEN FOUND ALIVE! IT IS UNBELIEVABLE!
Fiducia: Truly a New Year's miracle, definitely, Geraldo. This is something we didn't even expect--
Geraldo: IT IS AN UNBELIEVABLE MIRACLE! THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE! I MEAN, IT IS UNBELIEVABLE!" |

it wasnt my definition, that is what CNN said. they were trying to show that israel was treading the line and being dicks, which shows that they arent ignoring "israel using chemical weapons" as PinkandBlack's friend said.
the reasons phosforus is frowned upon has already been covered in this thread:
Quote : | "phosforus bombs are definitely a party pooper.

rather gruesome.

No one in the middle-class is under the illusion that being a millionaire makes you super-rich.
However, you don't want to make the definition "makes over a million a year" because you're going to get people in there with very little (and some negative) net worths that are in much more of a precarious position than a smart saver that makes $50-60K each year.
Trust me, I've had clients that made $400,000 but were upside down in their wealth because of the lifestyle they chose to live. 8/3/2006 2:34:59 PM |

As far as terrorism goes, Hezbollah as supposedly killed about 27 Israeli civilians and 39 Israeli soldiers.
Israel has killed at least a few hundred Lebanese children, as well as hundreds of other noncombatants. How many Hezbollah fighters they've killed is hard to say. Lebanon says around 80, Israeli says 300-400. 8/3/2006 2:50:37 PM |
