Alright, I am looking to upgrade my old ass MB/CPU. First off, I am looking for something that will support my RAM and Video Card.
-2 sticks of RAM -> 1GB 333 MHz DDR (Not Dual Channel Compatible) -GeForce4 Ti4400
I am also looking to try to keep it around/under $200. Athlon/Pentium doesn't really matter, though I have mostly always gone Athlon. I am just looking for the most bang for my buck at this time. 8/5/2006 5:05:12 PM |

Not touching something someone else has already fiddled with. 8/5/2006 5:48:32 PM |

dang, for $200 you could get roughly a 3000+, new motherboard, 1gb of dual channel, and a decent agp card, don't limit yourself to the ti4400 and your single channel ram
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz OEM Processor & Biostar Geforce 6100-M9 NVIDIA Socket 939 MicroATX Motherboard http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1964564&CatId=14 $150 - $50MIR = $99
OCZ Premier 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR 400 (PC 3200) SDRAM Dual Channel http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227069 - $91 - $8 MIR = $83
Sell your Ti4400 and your old ram, then upgrade from the onboard video to a decent pci-express x16 card.
or go with a better motherboard: MSI RX480 Neo2-F ATI Socket 939 ATX Motherboard & AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz OEM Processor http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2323247&CatId=0 $160 - $30 MIR = $130
use your existing ram, then sell your Ti4400 and get a good pci-express x16 card
i know TD isn't the best place to buy and get rebates from, but they have some of the best motherboard/cpu combo's apart from outpost.com, and i've never had a problem with TD

Hmm, cool deal. I noticed that both boards you listed say that they are compatible with dual channel 333 MHz Ram, so that would mean that my RAM would work with both I suppose? I am not sure how single channel works on dual channel boards. I suppose they are compatible but won't get the full effect.
Right now, I want to upgrade the necessities. My RAM isn't current, but is still pretty good. If I could keep it for now then upgrade to dual channel later, that is preferred. I had also considered upgrading my Video Card, and it looks like if I upgrade the MB, that will also be necessary. 8/6/2006 5:32:43 PM |
