You've probably all heard about it.

It's the new Aaron Sorkin show. Thomas Schlamme is involved, as well as Brad Whitford and Timothy Busfield. I'm sure other Sorkin show alums are on it, but that's not important.

It's coming in September to NBC. I just watched the pilot episode, and I don't know about anyone else, but this show is gonna be fucking great.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Yes. He was good in what little of The West Wing he was in.

I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed the pilot...not just in terms of story lines, but also because I didn't look at the Bradley Whitford's character and think, "oh, there's Josh Lyman."

i dunno about this show

its not bad

but its not really a tv show

its like a mockumentary/behind the scenes of the politics of saturday night live and nbc

i just don't see it lasting more than a few episodes

I don't think mockumentary means what you think it means.

yeah, don't listen to charlie he's a little crazy. its at least been bought and will be shown for a season

its definitely a cross between sports night and west wing, but that isn't a bad thing. doesn't have the style and pizzaz that sorkin's west wing did but its much more approachable and looks to be fun.

I fucking loved it?

It's almost a little too realistic--come on, can't we at least pretend that there are plenty of black producers?

Otherwise, it rocked. I'm hoping NBC doesn't keep too tight a leash on it. I could see myself watching this show for years. I know that sounds crazy, but it seemed like a family of people, a home.

Then again, I'm drunk.

by mockumentary i meant fictional behind the scenes type of thing that goes on at a television network

i just don't see the interest or appeal

then again, i never really watched the west wing

but then again, the interactions of the president and the way the nation works seems more interesting than how a television network works

i just don't see how studio 60 will get better than how it began in the first 15 minutes

or...it's just not my type of show

I see where you're coming from.

But it's basically the same idea, albeit in a slightly different format, as Sports Night, which is great.

yeah but wasn't sports night about a local show, half an hour long, and more of a comedy?

will the same thing work with an hour long show about a major network pushing more towards the drama end of the spectrum?

and will the celebrities playing themselves get old really fast?

probably, and that's ok, but this show has staying power. after sports night and west wing, there are a lot of sorkin fans out there

It was 30 minutes long, which made ABC call it a sit-com, but it wasn't. It was about a nationally broadcast sports show which regularly got third place in the ratings.

^^we'll see bits and pieces, which actually works out great because they can show the best jokes, but not be forced to end sketches

^Are you being serious? Because that's exactly how I felt and feel.

And I hope that feeling remains the same, like The Wing, where there is a lot going on with a lot of people and action but it still feels somewhat cozy...

I wasn't excited about this show, but happened to catch the pilot and I have to say I liked it. I never watched the west wing (although I heard it was good), but this seems like a good ensemble cast.

Well the critics love this show, so that usually means its gonna be cancelled. I watched it last night, and I didn't hate it, or love it. It almost seemed at times like it was trying to hard to be a good show. I don't know what it was about it, but some things just irritated me, but like I said, I didn't really hate it or love it, it was just kinda there.

No, not even that, but now that you mention it....kinda. But like I said, it seems to hard to be trying to be a hit TV show. Maybe I am not just to into NBC dramas and am used to the way other networks do them, but this one is gonna take some time.

^You and MackTuck still got me lost with those "forced" comments.

Maybe it's because I'm jumping into the show, just straight up jumping in, while you guys are all critical and hesitant and not really embracing it.

i can't embrace what i don't understand

i know i don't like it, but i don't know why i should hate it and that really bugs me

at times its too serious, then the characters are completely oblivious, and then things come completely out of nowhere

there's no cohesiveness, just a bunch of random things that only appear to make up something

i'm just not able to follow the story they're trying to tell

i know what it is

why should an audience care about how a tv show/network operates and attempts to stay successful

a tv show about a tv show doesn't affect people the way tv shows about the president, lawyers, crimes, hospitals, families, etc, etc...
