I had thought it was the computer at work, but it just happened here at home.
If i try to type an apostrophe, forward slash, or comma, the find function is activated, and Im unable to copy text in a browser. I havent changed any settings.

well the 'find' keyboard short-cuts are normal that you describe here.
about the copy and pasting being disabled in your browsers at home and at work, i have no idea what that could be. uninstall/ install. also, do you have extensions that are not compatible with the current version of FF? this may cause a conflict, but i am just talking off the top of my head about that, but it is worth a thought.

CTRL F is the find function.
This shit comes and goes (both the activation of the find function, and being unable to copy), and I'm not able to discern a pattern.

it's hard to tell from your description but my first guess is
tools - options - advanced - general
begin finding when you begin typing 8/7/2006 2:46:25 PM |

Both the apostrophe and forward slash are linked to the find function.

^thanks. now how the fuck do i turn it off permanently/anticipate when it will activate find, or not activate find?
I'm not seeing an option to turn off keyboard shortcuts, nor would I want to, so I guess I'd be looking for a 'manage keyboard shortcuts' deal, which i'm also not seeing.

If you're feeling ambitious....Firefox is open source, so you could build your own, special version.

fortunately for me, this is rarely a problem when it really matters, but yes...it's annoying to have to say 'oh, and i cant use my apostrophe key at the moment'
