Minnesota's always one of those teams that bash up the out-of-conference cupcakes and if they go 3-5 in conference it was a good year. That said, surprised they beat Michigan last year finally.
Indiana and Illinois will suck, no surprise.
For the second year in a row, Purdue does not have Michigan or Ohio State on the schedule. Someone explain this to me, there are 2 teams every year that a team will not play in Big 10 football. Does it make a lot of sense for those two in the same year to be both UM and OSU?

From Ivan Maisel at espn.com:
Quote : | "After peering into the crystal ball, here are my five predictions for the 2006 Big Ten season.
1. The best quarterback in the conference will be Drew Tate of Iowa. Troy Smith of Ohio State is the hot run-pass prototype, and Drew Stanton of Michigan State has the arm NFL scouts appreciate. But I like the career path Tate has carved. He won as a sophomore, then learned some hard lessons as a junior. With tailback Albert Young behind Tate, defenses will have to be honest. Advantage, Hawkeyes.
2. The Michigan defense will rebound. The Wolverines will rediscover pressure on the quarterback and shine under new coordinator Ron English. The best thing going for the Michigan D the past few seasons has been English's secondary.
3. Of the two 30-something head coaches, Pat Fitzgerald of Northwestern will have an easier first year than Bret Bielema of Wisconsin. True, Bielema has had 12 months to prepare to take over and Fitzgerald has had six weeks. But I think the death of Randy Walker has brought the Northwestern team and the entire university community behind Fitzgerald. There will be a lot less transition there than in Madison, where Bielema made some coaching changes and has a lot of rebuilding to do on the offense.
4. There is long-term optimism at Illinois after Ron Zook brought in the first recruiting class that truly belonged to him and his staff. If Zook plays a lot of those freshmen this season, however, the key word in that first sentence is long-term.
5. This is a critical year for Purdue. Joe Tiller shook up his staff, and he says there is great chemistry among the new coaches. If the Boilermakers don't respond, however, I wouldn't be surprised if Tiller took his fly rod and went home. " |

Michigan 1-0 4-0 Ohio State 1-0 4-0 Iowa 1-0 4-0 Purdue 1-0 4-0 Michigan State 0-0 3-1 Northwestern 0-0 2-2 Indiana 0-0 2-2 Wisconsin 0-1 3-1 Penn State 0-1 2-2 Minnesota 0-1 2-2 Illinois 0-1 1-3
All three of the odds-on favorites are undefeated, with my Boilermakers joining them by temporarily masquerading as a good team. But oh well, bring on the Irish.
And for the Buckeyes on here, I'm thinking Hawkeyes for the win. It's gonna be a great game.
This coming week:
Wisconsin @ Indiana Illinois @ Michigan State Purdue @ #12 Notre Dame Northwestern @ Penn State #1 Ohio State @ #13 Iowa #6 Michigan @ Minnesota
I'm not really a Michigan hater (any more than any other Big 10 team anyway), but here's a song a Penn State fan passed on to me (for Ohio State fans to enjoy).
"Hail to those Mother fuckers, Hail to those big cock suckers, HAIL! HAIL! To Michigan, the cesspool of the west.
Hail to those fornicators, Hail to those masturbators, HAIL! HAIL! to Michigan, the cesspool of the west.
Hail to those autoworkers, Hail to those circle jerkers, HAIL! HAIL! To Michigan, the cesspool of the west.
Hail to those closet maggots, Hail to thos fucking f*ggots, HAIL! HAIL! to Michigan, the cesspool of the west." 9/25/2006 7:59:39 AM |

If every conference did it, it wouldn't be a big deal and would help the quality of college sports (specifically basketball) overall. If only the Big Ten did it, it would be hilarious and their bball recruiting would take a huge hit.
I wonder what Maryland thinks of the proposed rule?

Ahhh, the big ten. Always pining for the way things used to be.
I mean, it's a great idea if you love watching the D-league. You might never see a guy in the high school top 25 play college basketball again if this got implemented
Football is a bit of a different story since there is no minor league football anywhere and almost no freshmen are ready to play in the NFL. I mean, even a super freak like Mario Williams or Julio Jones wouldn't have been drafted coming out of high school. It's a totally different universe physically even between college and the pros let alone high school.
This proposal isn't even going to make it to a vote. 2/21/2015 10:01:28 AM |
