You may be right about me not knowing much of Israel's history...but here's why conservatives...or at least some...love Israel.

Israel set up a democracy and built a prosperous nation. The rest of the countries around there built shit holes and havens for extremism. Iraq, the cradle of civilization turned on of the most promising countries on Earth into a dictatorship filled with genocide and torture. Most of the countries are so ass-backward that women can't drive cars...vote...show their hair in public.

Israel, on the other hand, is a normal country.

^^^^^ bingo. Israel is moderate. They are properous. They offer far more civil liberties than any of the countries around them. For that, they should be commended and defended.

Our tax dollars are well served there. With the fact that the countries that surround Israel hate us so much, an ally is very valuable... Especially one with a kick ass intel agency that blows ours away. The folks that work in the Mossad are bad ass motherfuckers.

i'm not one to put the blame of all middle eastern problems on the west and israel. BUT our seemingly conditionless support of israel is not helping anything.

we give israel all sorts of money to help bolster their military so that they can thwart their "terrorist" problems. why not give lebanon, another up and coming democracy money to thwart their terrorist problem.

also: we have plenty of blood on our hands too. we've supported ruthless dictators (saddam, for instance) and backward theocracy (saudi arabia, anyone?).

we just seem to be hypocrites plenty and our support of israel is a big root of that.

the rest of the middle east uses israel as a scape goat and an excuse to not address their domestic problems. perhaps we should stop giving them that excuse.

Things are kinda messed up there at this time. Please try again later.

Lebanon has been going through a huge religious/cultural shift over the last few decades. Israel, although seemingly unstable alot of times, has atleast maintained a system of government that has lasted as long as the country itself. You never can tell where anything goes (money/food) when you send it to another country in that region.

You have to be joking. Sure, the country has some problems with women's rights, but is it anything close to ANY other country in that area? Fuck no. By comparison, Israel is the pinnacle of freedom over there. Besides, trafficking in women is huge, but illegal there. In Pakistan, they gangraped a women as a court-order. Now, I realize that was a tribal court, not an official court, but the fact that there are two court systems, one based on Islamicism, is not good.
