also I need to get an advanced routing & switching cert. my company will pay me another $800 bucks if I get it.

Stop telling us details we don't need to know, I think that will yield more advice.

I wouldn't stress out about the CCNA quite as much as you are. You're talking about spending hundreds of dollars for a test that costs a fraction of that.

Take the test, and most likely pass it.

If you fail it, you'll receive a print-out letting you know which sections you did the worst in. Take this sheet, go back and continue studying. Pass it next time.

There's no shame in that.

Stop stressing out.

^^It's more complicated than that because some questions aren't scored at all. A buddy of mine scored in the mid-eighties on his 4 sections and ended up with a 910 - go figure. It's harder than it used to be - I had mine in 2002, and it's gotten much more selective.

Its really not hard enough material that you should have to memorize the actual test in order to pass.

Dont shame yourself and just buck up and learn how networking works. You will be much better for it in the end.

this is my next job. i'll be back in RTP for a month: client says, "need an engineer whom can install & configure routers and switches at a high level".


HOW HARD CAN IT BE . . . though i've never done it before. this job could be good training for my CCNA/CCNP specializations too.

Mr. Lan-Switching is right. If you have problems with CCNA stuff to the point where you're using ActualTest/TestKings/Pass4Sure to get you through the tests, there is NO WAY you are going to be able to configure MLS, advanced routing protocols, QoS, and all of the multitudinous parameters that come in an enterprise network.

^^To answer your question, REALLY fucking hard. Not sure what your academic/technology background is, but these tests are no joke. My full-time job is to study and get certs, but I have hundreds of engineers to rely on in the field while I roll up my sleeves and learn the ropes. If you're expecting to just pass the exams and all of a sudden be able to design and implement and enterprise infrastructure, you're screwed.
