Quote : | "Earlier this week, we reported that Paramount dumped Tom Cruise. We were the only news source on the internet to speculate that the announcement was tied to the two film deal with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. We speculated that when Paramount decided to side with the South Park guys (right after the Emmy nomination) Tom Cruise decided to leave them. But Paramount beat Cruise to the punch.
Looks like our theory is starting to become fact. Tom Cruise's camp quickly fired back, claiming that they quit Paramount, and wern't "fired."
Moviehole reported that in the last month, the studio was giving a lot of Cruise's projects fresh new starts.
But the real news was that Cruise had raised $100 million from two hedge funss to finance any future projects. This would allow Cruise to set up shop on his own.
And Variety has a very interesting must read article about the orphaned projects: where will they go?
Reuters speculates that the decision to let Cruise go could have been caused by a DVD slow-down. Why aren't the news media picking up on the REAL story here?
Paramount picked sides and went with Trey and Matt. When contact negotiations came around, Cruise turned down Paramounts lowball offer. Even if it was enough, who would want to work with a company who would side against you? Tom raised the funds to set up shop producing in his own shop, without any studio control. So Paramount makes the big announcement, they fired Tom because of his behavior in 2005 (which makes no sense at all). They basically beat Cruise to the punch. So now the mainstream media fails to pick up on the facts of the case: Cruise is still a big box office draw. " |

CAA does. They're threatening to boycott Paramount, although I don't think there's a chance in hell of that happening.8/24/2006 3:35:30 PM |

The guy still kills at the box office and except for the media's obssession with his new, unseen baby, he hasn't made many headlines since the South Park feud.

I have trouble believing that. Team America and South Park didn't do that much business (although the budget for them were fairly low and they turned a profit). Cruise can fart out movies that gross more than those two.8/24/2006 4:45:41 PM |

Frank said “CIA,” a government agency that was responsible for this catastrophe. But Tobias thought he said “CAA,” a talent agency which was responsible for this one (Love, Indubitably). 8/24/2006 4:49:24 PM |

Tom Cruise wasn't fired. The Cruise-Wagner production deal set up at Paramount Pictures is set to expire. The studio has chosen not to renew as it was difficult for the studio to turn a profit with the way the deal is structured. Despite the ramblings of an 83-year-old man, the decision has very little to do with Tom Cruise's recent antics. 8/24/2006 8:11:00 PM |

Quote : | ""But a recent study by Marketing Evaluations Inc. suggests that Mr. Cruise's popularity has dipped this year. Mr. Cruise's "Q Score," which measures the percentage of people who rate a performer one of their favorites, hovered between 27% and 30% in studies conducted in 2000, 2002 and 2004. His negative rating during that period was between 12% and 14%...in 2006, Mr. Cruise's Q Score skidded to 19% while his negative rating jumped to 31%.
