Coming to this university? I had the opportunity to attend the following:

Michigan (my long shot)
UNC
Cambell
Wake F

I visited all the schools, got accepted into all of them. I had a very difficult time making a decision. Ultimately it came down to...drum roll...looks. Thats right, I based my decision to come here on the actual looks of the campus. It was just something about the red brick make-up here that was intriguing that all the other campuses lacked. Now, quote me for being crazy, but its the truth.

I just wasn't into all the natural scenic material that the other campuses had to offer. Most of them were in wooded areas in the middle of nowhere. My only upset about the campus of NCSU (well basically not even the campus) was the surrounding poverty. Alot of peeps get mugged around here, and thats not sweet.

Academically, I feel NCSU is a competitor. I think its on the same level with the other schools. I think I made the right choice. Now, whats left to decide is what greek organization I will be joining!!!

Poverty? Are you fucking serious? I'd say to come on over to Durham and get a mild view of how the Other Half lives, but you're probably scared to.
You chose NCSU because of looks? And you're from Cary, where people run late to work because they were polishing the Rolls Royce? Please tell us you're kidding. I have never known anyone to get mugged around campus, unless it was petty theft, and I think that happened all of once or twice last year.

Very well, the hillsborough area is infested with poverty. You cant walk 10 meters without being hassled. Now thats poverty. And the crime rate has increased around campus, from a report I read. There is no debating that.

On another note, there is no other campus built like NCSU. It is rather unique with the red brick, and this is being continued with future campus projects.

I walked up and down Hillsborough from Thompkins back to ValPark all last spring and was only bothered by a homeless person once, when I was leaving Wachovia. I told the bank manager, and he called the cops. You wanna be hassled by bums? Come to 9th St. when it's dark outside. And that's not even the ghetto...it's basically bordering Duke's east campus.

Franklin Street is definetly worse with homeless people.

There are some nice parts of campus, like the court of the carolinas area, and the 1911 Building (minus the repairs it needs)....but there are also some really gross parts. Walk through Polk Hall, see how you like it...

MIT has an ugly campus, people don't stop going there. I guess if that sort of thing is important to you, then it can make a difference, but most people, when they applied to college, had a pretty good idea of where they wanted to go. For some it might be that they got into their top choice or something, but got a full ride or something from another school, but I think academics are more important than what the place looks like. Unless you want to go to The Bucolic Campus School, I think UNC and State are currently on par with looking crappy because of construction. And Campbell...is in Bumfuck, NC so I guess if you like being surrounded by...Wal Mart and farms, it's not great either. Anyways, I guess enjoy your 4+ years.

But I don't like UNC and WFU's campuses. There are way too many trees, bushes, grass, shade, and gay hippie things on their campuses. I actually like the look of NCSU and all of the bricks.

I applied to NCSU and only NCSU because it is a family tradition. I had my acceptance letter by the second week in September of my Senior year. I also went with NCSU because I was really into the natural sciences and scoffed at programs at liberal arts colleges where you do not even decide on a major until you have been there for two years. Now, I changed my major from biology to English after two years (ironic, huh?), but I will never regret my decision to spend 6 wonderful years at NCSU.

I would have to say that "Raleigh Little Theatre" area is poverty fo sho...I mean I stopped by there one time and this one hobo dressed in Shakespeare garb that all the homeless peeps wear and he was outside in this hobo theatre spittin' out all these weird words to another female hobo also dressed up in Shakespeare garb....it was really, really uber sad the poverty it was, fo sho....
