I read an article in The Wall Street Journal about the dichotomy of those that hoard emails in their inbox and those that minimize the amount of emails in their inbox.

Personally, I have always been a deleter. If it's really important I leave it my inbox, but even with plenty of storage and search features, I'd rather maintain an inbox that promotes efficiency.

Which one are you?

what did it say the differences meant? or were they just pointing out that people tend to be one type or the other?

Jeffrey Zaslow said that it may suggest that you may feel validated by having a full inbox or having an empty one.

Hoarders often said they felt like outlaws. Sometimes their inbox can reach insanity and they may be afraid that their IT dept may hunt them down.

Also, senders may feel slighted when their email messages are quickly deleted after being read by the Deleter.

im definately a hoarder.....i keep everything except spam. i dont think it gives me any validation, i just like having records of things and being able to check something again.

at my work, if you dont save your emails to a folder on your computer after 3 months the automatically get deleted. ive been burned before becuase for a month or two last year i didnt save my emails. ive tried to find certain emails that were sent during that time, and i couldnt because they were gone.

i hoard...especially at work. i may delete some emails after a time, but i hoard them for at least 6-8 months before they get the axe. (i get about 30-50 emails a day between my work account and my personal account so 6-8 months worth of that is a lot of email)

however i delete the instant messages on my work software...it helps me keep up with what tasks i've done.

with way more storage than I need, and the option of finding what I want immediately, I see no reason to delete emails.

Hoarder, but I'm highly organized. I only keep 10 things in my inbox and everything else is in a specific folder.

Not super terrible, but that's most all of the emails over two years. I still have some archived from years and years ago, though.

I sort mine into folders. I always try to keep my INBOX clear, yet I never delete anything that isn't SPAM. Where do I fit into this equation?

That would qualify as hoarding.

Placing email in folders can be exasperating if you can't remember which folder a message is in.

As long as your computer's search tools and storage capacity are up to the task, then organization is better than a stuffed inbox

I don't think so. If you keep your inbox clean, that is a deleter. If you keep the mails in your inbox (instead of deleting them or organizing or archiving them), then you are a hoarder.
