OK, so so far, three make the list:

PDHSC. Goes to 15yd. Any straight-wall or pistol cartridge is OK, and shotguns are also OK (I think "no slugs" is the rule on shotguns).
Good: It's attached to a gun shop which actually has milsurps and stuff like that. Nice staff. Range fees are for "all day".
Bad: Only goes to 15yd, sometimes too busy to actually get a lane. Can't really use it for rifles.

Wake FETC. No shot (exceptions can be made if the range is sufficiently empty), rifles in anything < .50BMG are OK. 50yd pistol/rimfire, 50yd anything, 100yd anything lines.
Good: Awesome staff. Bunch of old geeks who like guns.
Bad: Nonexistent hours. Range fees are hourly ($10/1:15).

Range One. 25yd and 100yd berms. Outdoor. Anything goes, I think.
Good: Outdoors, pretty decent pricing on ammo.
Bad: Outdoors, far away (1:00~1:15 from campus), gunshop prices on guns are kind of steep. 100yd line is kind of cramped.

Any others?

I'm leaving Davi's out (regardless of the quality of their actual range) simply because the staff fucking blows. And because I've never actually been inside, because I'm under 21.

Fuck yeah, mang. They don't even have fire rate rules (well, no bumpfiring allowed), although they'll bitch at you a little if you start putting rounds into the floor/ceiling.

Tried to go in there once when I was 19. They told me it was Federal regulation that nobody under 21 could be in there, and that the ATF was right across the street watching them every day, so they had to enforce it.

davi's is not as bad as you guys make it out to be.

i go there more than any other place, mainly because its like 5 min from my house, the next closest is PDHSC which is like 30 or so.

ive never had a problem with them being assholes or bad staff.

i just go in there, get a lane and shoot. if i have any Q, the answer them. i dont know how in depth your questions are, but usually when i goto the range, i go, shoot and leave. i know most of you queers probably look to buy more guns.

but another good thing about davi's is that they have a bigger gun selection (to rent) than pdhsc. and you can shoot rifles

only been to davi's once, they didn't ask me if i was 21 or anything. they were pretty nice didn't have any questions so i don't know how they are bout that. also one of the guys that worked there offered to buy my pistol, i had to wipe the drool off when i left.

Well lemme ask you then, is there a required registerd time so they can check your credentials. Do they have guns at the range or byog? Do you need some kind of membership to get in? That's most of the stuff, i've considerd.

No. They DO make you go through the little safety pamphlet and do a multiple-choice safety quiz. Takes a few minutes, but it's nothing painful.

They have guns you can rent.

Do you need some kind of membership to get in?
Nope. After finishing the safety orientation thingy, you get a range card, that's all.

Procedures are a little different and a bit more irksome at FETC (you have to go to one of the range & safety orientation classes, which only come up about once every other week), and they do not have any guns for rent. However, FETC goes out to 100yd, and I generally like it better as a shooting environment (I mainly shoot rifles). No A/C, though.

Lets see, how ranges work...

First, understand that the range is in one of two conditions, HOT or COLD, hot basically means people are shooting and (obviously) no one is permitted to walk down range, when the range is called cold you cease fire, unload and open your weapon, place it on the bench and refrain from touching or getting to close to it. Then everyone (who wants to) walks down and changes targets, once everyone is back, the range is called hot again. All that doesnt really apply if the range has automated targets, but the rest of these points apply to all ranges:

You always have at least one Range Safety Officer (RSO), while you are there you do everything he says, else you're gone.

You basically walk in, pay, fill out a form, pick a lane, and setup your gear, note you should come in with your guns unloaded and cased (ie not exposed). One only unboxes/unwrappes the gun at the bench (during HOT). You can have ammo in your mags as long as they are not in the gun.

Most ranges you can rent things ranging from guns, hearing and eye protection, spotting scopes and rests. But you are advised to bring everything you need (and most ranges require protection, you'd be a damn fool to open fire with a full power weapon indoors without hearing protection).

Ranges have all sorts of special rules about what you can/cannot do/use, make sure you find out ahead of time. Especially things like mag limits, caliber limits, energy limits and ammo type restrictions.

Finally here are some etiquette things:
- Dont dress like a thug or try to act cool and dont be such a piss poor shot that you hit the other guy's target.
- Get a consensus with everyone else when a good time to change targets is, if everyone else is ready to change targets dont load up a full mag.
- Have some consideration for your noise pollution, if you are planning on firing some wildcat-hellfire-magnum-und-gotterdammerung noise maker, dont setup next to the father and son with the .22. And if your gun spits brass out like theres no tomorrow, dont setup where someone is directly to the right of you or get a net/deflector.

Ultimately though you will find that most people at the range are very polite (something about everyone in the room having guns makes a friendly atmosphere ).
