i just installed it a few days ago and its running fine, most everybody makes programs that work with it, if not they will work in x86 mode, the only things that i use and couldn't get to work are diskeeper, any of norton shit, avg antivirus will work if you have full version, and you gotta do some sweatin to make nForce work if you have it. other than that it's fine. and oh yea, ultramon doesn't like 64 too much but it works ok. 9/21/2006 7:38:58 PM |

Make sure your printer will work with it... can be a problem... And the original Oregon Trail won't work on it. 9/21/2006 8:14:13 PM |

so why are you guys running x64? Besides the benefit of being about to run >4gb (which i wouldnt' even really call a benefit for 99.99% of people) whats the reasoning...what 64b applications are that important to you? or is it a "i just want to play around with it" kind of thing? 9/22/2006 2:45:54 PM |

well for me running Vista 64bit started out as Quote : | " "i just want to play around with it" kind of thing? " |
then when i realized photoshop opens up in less than 6 seconds and dreamweaver opens up instantly. i figured i was better off running 64bit for work purposes.9/22/2006 4:36:40 PM |

i cant get windows xp pro to recognize my 400 GB HDD
im running windows xp pro 2002
no matter what i do nothing will work...theres a two page thread about it and nobody has any idea what to do
so i figure vista will recognize it so why not...plus upgrading my computer for free cant hurt right?
i eventually want to max out the RAM (4GB) in this thing and have tons of storage space as well
i really dont care about needing it or whatever because the extra 100 something dollars it will be for 4 GB of RAM over 2 GB of RAM is like nothing to me
im not rich or whatever but i just dont spend a lot of money on a lot of stuff so blowing 100-150 dollars to never have to upgrade my computer again and to be able to run whatever the fuck i want to run however i want to run it is well worth it to me
plus everyone can get all mad when i list my specs in some random thread for some random reason
and thats always fun 9/22/2006 5:16:47 PM |

yea i just looked at your other thread....your computer needs about $4,000 put into it before you can even think about posting your specs, and with your computer knowledge, you'll never be able to build a system yourself, so you'll fry everything, (i mean for christ's sake, you dont even know what a pci slot is), so you'll have to pay somebody else another 5 grand to build you a computer and oh yea, about the "never" part, 3-5 years and your super machine that you just put 9 grand into is going to be obsolete. so shut up and stop making stupid threads 9/23/2006 1:41:15 PM |

yeah, saying you're never going to have to upgrade again is pretty ridiculous. 9/23/2006 2:21:11 PM |

see youre mad already
and you totally missed the point
i was simply talking about the "4GB of RAM" part of the specs
nowhere did i mention any other aspect of my computer
Quote : | "thats just an expression i've never seen before, i was shocked that someone would say that" |
again im shocked you took it that literally
but please feel free to predict when exactly in the future i will be requiring more than 4GB of RAM
especially considering all i do is type papers, play games, and get on the internet
anyways you all have ADD
this thread is not about RAM or specs or flexing nuts on the internet
its about xp x64 and windows vista
so if you have some knowledge, drop it 9/23/2006 8:52:53 PM |

I have Vista on disc. Got it from a tech demo show. 64 and 32 bit versions... sitting at the bottom of my trash bin right now.
A lot of my drivers won't work. Can't get HP 64bit printer drivers to work. Can't get Radeon 64bit drivers to work correctly. Most of my games don't work and those that do just crash after playing for a few minutes. Blue screened on me if I let computer idle after a few hours. I can't even get it to dual boot correctly. Tried VistaBoot, bootcfg edits, fixboot, all the boots you'll ever need, etc...
After a whole night of messing with it, I blew everything away and went back to XP.
No real performance gains from Vista. Aside from the eye candy, it's just a big PITA. Wait until they get all the bugs out. 9/25/2006 2:39:46 PM |
