My point is I see a lot of threads on here with ridiculous comparisons like the Sears Tower behind the Raleigh skyline, and I thought this was a little more realistic.

Miami/Dade County - 2,376,014
Raleigh/Wake County - 748,815

Yeah, if I was using metro areas the numbers would be drastically different, this is just the actual city (except for Honolulu, which is unicorporated).

ridiculous comparisons would be to say that all of these metropolitan areas have roughly the same population.

I like the pictures though. Nicely done.

Those with metro areas similar to Raleigh-Cary MSA:

Tucson (Tucson MSA)

Albany (Albany-Schenectady-Troy MSA)

New Haven (New Haven-Milford MSA)

Fresno (Fresno MSA)

Omaha (Omaha-Council Bluffs MSA)

Oxnard, CA (Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura MSA)

Worcester, MA (Worcester MSA)

Grand Rapids, MI (Grand Rapids-Wyoming MSA)

Allentown, PA (Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton MSA)

Honolulu is really surprising, I had no idea it was so nice. But man it's freaking low, better hope there aren't any tsunamis in its neck of the woods. Pittsburgh also surprised me, People always talk about it being just a trashy, ugly town.

Honolulu is astounding. I went to Kona (Big Island) 3 weeks ago on my honeymoon and we flew into/out of Honolulu twice, once at night. The skyline while flying in on a clear night was just like that picture, but much more massive behind what's visable there.

It's all RIGHT on the water...kinda wild how that tiny island just floats around w/ that massive city weighing it down

How could you forget!

We flew in over Vegas this past Saturday night and my jaw dropped to the floor. Never have I seen such a beautiful city that GOES ON FOREVER. It seemed the lights just stretched on as far as you could see in every direction, and then we flew over the strip...damn. just one of those things you gotta do before you die.

and i really want to see honalulu at night too now

haha the Wichita skyline is joke. I live about 30 minutes from there and it is much worse than that picture indicates. Raleigh's downtown area pwns Wichita's downtown.

Also Tulsa is dirty...

isnt rosslyn arlington?

those populations are so messed up because of city limits. miamis actual city limits are just the center of "miami". it is very small and like if inside the beltline was "raleigh"

i would think mini is the same way

Raleigh's skyline will get there. A lot of people who talk shit about it tend to forget that there was a height restriction in place up until a few years ago.

No, I just think people misuse it to say that our skyline is shit. Our skyline may be shit, but you shouldn't expect it to look like NY or Chicago.

charlotte is also on solid bedrock being in the foothills. that makes it cheaper to build skyscrapers. raleigh is on a soft clay/coastal plain mixture. winston salem is on a hard clay/bedrock mixture and greensboro is on solid clay. that makes it cheaper for all of those cities to build skyscrapers.
