= one hell of a good trip through the mountains

in a nutshell


12 hours riding in the rain,

what was left of 3 bikes sent home in a u-haul truck,

front brakes faded on me in the middle of 17 switchbacks and i laid it down hard, minor damage ,

only 207 miles on major highways, no cars, no trucks, no cops, a lot of those back roads in west va made the dragon look like pussyville,

don't ever walk up to a 6'8" 350# coal miner in a bar and say

props to the america's best value motel desk girl's boyfriend for lpicking up 8 of our guys from the richmond county jail with his truck sunday morning

putting west va strippers through college one dollar at a time (or a couple hundred wrapped around a room key)

the look on the hotel manager's face when he walked into the continental breakfast and 6 of the strippers from southern exposure were eating with us because they were at the hotel all night

getting lost and riding down a one lane paved road that turned into a dirt road for 12 miles over the mountain and popping out 2 miles from the town we were orignally heading for, thank god dad was point man navigating on that leg of the trip

buffalo steaks give me gas and its hard to fart while riding a motorcycle

and my ass is so sore i need a hemoroid doughnut to sit down for a the next two weeks (thats 26 hours in the saddle out of 58)

i wore out a brand new front tire and brakes in 3 days

running back and forth up the mountain with a gas can between my legs because "navigator" dad misjudged some distances and 6 people ran out of gas before we got to the next stop

god damn i cant wait to do it again in april

and i forgot about stopping at a cluster of campers they called a town up there and asking for directions to a place we found out later was 4 miles down the road, and they had never heard of it, talk about not getting out much

WV is pretty backwards. I didn't see any women there on my last trip that would be welcome to spend the night in my hotel room.

Sounds like a fun trip though.

yep, WV brings in plenty of decent girls around the whitewater areas and ski resorts. snowshoe has always been kind to me.

snowshoe has some of the sickest Downhill MT biking ever that shit is no joke. Snowboarding is ok but has nothing on vermont or Montana

and it was mostly a crowd from back home, i was the youngest one out there, most of the guys had been riding for 20+ years. one of the guys that laid down his 04 fjr 1300 had been riding for over 30 years, including racing for 8 years in the 70's and hadnt laid down a street bike since he hit a deer in 1982. he was layin so far in the turns he was draggin his saddlebags and mufflers so its not like he rides like a pussy even though hes over 60, just goes to show you, doesnt matter how experienced you are, if you're riding point, a little bit of pea gravel around a turn will put you in your place quick, usually the few guys riding up front would stay a few turns ahead and radio back any problems, and we'd switch up every leg, so the guys in the back could go balls to the wall with no suprises

^^ that was a brief overview, anyone who comes out to bdubs tomorrow night will laugh till they piss themselves

and if any one is interested in going this spring, let me know because we usually plan the trips about a month in advance, once we hit farmville or lynchburg, the jump off points, theres a solid 2 days of riding the most insane mountain roads you've ever seen in your life, without a highway in sight, except for occaisionally crossing over them, a lot of these guys have been doing this for 10 years or more and they know some great routes, you wont get bored and we always try out some new roads, and give them a smiley face or frown on the map, or skull and crossbones, if they are even on the map

i can guarentee that 3 out of every 4 turns will have your asshole clenched up tighter than a banjo string, aint no guardrails in those parts, and you can reach out and almost touch the rock wall on others


and its off to the doctor in the morning for another cortizone shot

Sounds like an awesome trip

I did something like 300 miles in a day the first weekend I had my CBR600RR, I could barely sit down afterwards, lol. I really enjoyed it, but definitely not the kind of trip for this kind of bike. Makes me want an FJR1300 really bad. Near-sport bike handling plus comfort must rock.

How's the Magna after the fall? I rode a Shadow 600 a few months ago and it was the first time I'd ever been on a cruiser...front brakes made me nervous, lol. Guess it was a good instinct!

Mountain roads rule...and the Dragon, while awesome, is somewhat overrated simply due to the amount of traffic and law enforcement. And there's definitely roads out there that make it look pansy...I've encountered a few of them around here (East TN/Southwest VA/Northwest NC)
