...should be familiar with.

I choose the Srebrenica massacre.

Demonstrates:
-Massive UN failure
-Consequences of citizen dis/un-armament
-Religion being used as excuse for genocide

ok, ill be serious

Bloody Sunday, St. Petersburg, 1905

Probably the most dramatic, disturbing, influential historical event of the 20th century.

-turned the rest of Russia on the Tsar
-got the common, Eastern Orthodox Russians away from the Tsar
-justified need for disposal of the tsar
-inspired Lenin (he said this event inspired him the most over the next 12 years)
-gave a galvanizing point to the Soviet movement
-emphasized to the outside world the failure of Imperial Russia, both internally and in foreign affaris/wars (in midst of Russo-Japanese War, partly a protest against that war)

Yeah, but what lessons can be learned from it that everyone should be familiar with?

Charles Martel's stopping the Moors at the Battle of Tours in 732

preserved the rest of western Europe from Muslim invasion and Islamization after the Moors had already run roughshod over Spain and Portugal

Don't murder the leader of a peaceful movement, even if they are a threat to your hold on power. You will only insprire the next line of leaders, who could be much worse (as was seen).

Quote :
"In January 1905 Georgiy Gapon and Pinhas Rutenberg led a march in St. Petersburg to present a petition to the tsar. Cossack troops responded to the throng with gunfire, killing 96 people and initiating the Revolution of 1905. This event, which came to be called Bloody Sunday, combined with the embarrassing failures in the war with Japan, prompted more strikes, agrarian disorders, army mutinies, and terrorist acts organized by opposition groups. Workers formed a council, or Soviet, in St. Petersburg. Armed uprisings occurred in Moscow, the Urals, Latvia, and parts of Poland."

Also, the Tishnic Massacre.

But it was not sad, we do the killing.

I was tryna think of some event where people worked together to make something happen, and everything ended hapy and positive. Or some event where someone died in the name of true love.

But, I'm so negative...I couldn't think of shit.

the UN, multiple Congolese factions, and independent watchdog groups teamed up to make that happen.

This describes WWII. However, if WWII were to happen today, the left would let Hitler take over the world because they wouldnt want to risk soldiers lives to prevent the deaths of millions of others.

If by EVERYONE you mean every human:

The Rwanda genocide: 8,000-10,000 humans being hacked to death PER DAY. You can't beat that in sheer sickness. Furthermore, it shows humans at their evilest, unlike the Holocaust, where it was people in power killing. In Rwanda, it was the power of words through a radio station that convinced regular people to cut up their neighbours, friends, and relatives. Infants, women, old, all.

If by EVERYONE you mean every American:

Then, any of the numerous massacres and genocides that America is responsible for, directly or indirectly. As well as all the assasinations of democratically elected leaders, and the installings (or support) of dictators who committed said genocides.

Why? Because most Americans DON'T KNOW about those. And they think the US is a good country that can do no harm, and is actually a force for good. Only when you study those events, will you come to realize why the overwhelming majority of humans distrust America's stated humane intentions in it's involvement in various hotspots around the world.

^^What is so special about Ruby Ridge though? What lessons can be learned from it that everyone should know?

If you're breaking the law and the feds tell you to do something, you should fucking do it?

^Where did he make an analogy? He just said that the left would let Hitler take over the world, if the same set of circumstances arose today. And that's total bullshit.

I'd say the American Revolution

Everyone knows of it, not many people really know it.

Nothing explains America better. If you don't get a little choked up when you read the Gettysburg Address, you need to get a better understanding of the American Revolution.

October 5th, 1957 - The day we got something that we made ourselves off this friggin' rock.

Why is everyone so focused in on events where shittons of people died or bad things happened. Are the only events worth remembering the shitty stuff that we did to ourselves?

August 25, 1945. The first victims of the Cold War are murdered in cold blood by Maoists. They are missionaries, killed due to their pro-christian, pro-capitalist, anti-communist agenda. for the first time, the left's war against religion truly hits home.
