My parents want to get a family portrait done someplace in Durham and wanted to know if anybody has had any experience with any studios/photographers in the area. We didn’t want a cheap Sears picture taken but not super expensive either. We would prefer a recommendation instead of picking a random one from a phonebook.
Other info that someone might feel important before answering: At least one photo will have at least 14 people in it so it cant be a really small studio and it’ll get done in December so it has to be indoors.
Thanks! 9/29/2006 2:54:32 PM |

14 people, that is going to be a LARGE studio space. We have a 30 ft room and can't really accomodate more than 8 or so without compromising composition and poses. Think about getting everyone together outside near the lake or other pretty scene and do the picture there. It'll be very nice and something much better than a generic studio shot.
sorry I don't have any recommendations on who to go with out there, but I know of some really good people out here at the beach. 9/29/2006 5:11:16 PM |

^ MacBeth is REALLY expensive though - well too expensive for me - my sister had her kids portraits done like 2 years ago and the proofs were over $400 9/29/2006 9:06:35 PM |

if only we were in business up here, you could get this quality in 30 seconds (most of which is putting together the costume).

baby's mama wants to buy an $800 photo package that covers multiple shoots over baby's first year
i'm all about having some professional pictures taken, but that sounds like way overkill 9/29/2006 10:30:54 PM |

theres definately no reason to get ripped off by some fancy photographer. you can find a lot of guys with great knowhow that'll charge you something reasonable (mainly because they dont have the established name).
between our studio and similar guys we've met, there's great reason to shop around. you'll get substantially better quality than sear's for just a bit more. 9/29/2006 10:43:11 PM |

this lady does awsome photography. She did my friends wedding and did an absolutely amazing job. She's down to earth, easy to work with, fun and very professional.
You will have to call her to get a price quote. 9/30/2006 5:34:37 PM |

concur
think i might have her talked out of it...we'll see
worst case, my half of that huge sitting fee will be much cheaper in the long run than pissing her off and getting hammered on child support (rather than the amicable and practical current arrangement, and not to mention the effects of not getting along with her well) 10/1/2006 4:34:33 PM |
