Has buying movies ever been worth it.
With VHS all you got was the film and you only watched it ~2-3 times in 5 years. With the advent of DvDs you get extra content but you still will only watch the movie 2-3 times every 5 years.
I mean honestly, why would you need to watch a movie again within a short time. You know whats going to happen.
The only real reasons to watch a movie multiple times in a short time are the following. 1) You are a film major and you want to study how certain sequences were filmed. 2) Your friend hasnt seen the movie and you might as well watch it with him/her.
Basically the same goes for buying tv show seasons. Granted you get more film per dollar, but you already know what has happened before you bought it (normally because why would you buy it if you didnt know it was good).
Reason I am making this thread is that I cant see myself buying BSG season 2.5 when I havent even cracked open 1.0 or 2.0 since I got them for free. I know what happens! 10/4/2006 3:07:20 PM |

I usually re-watch my DVDs when other people are over. I like other people to experience movies that I really like. "Have you seen L4yer Cake?!?!? No? Let's watch it." I've watched most of my movies several times because of girlfriends. I've watched Season 1 and 2 of Entourage at least 3 times all the way through.
Very rarely, but sometimes I'll pop in a DVD and watch it by myself. I have to be really bored/hungover/sick to do this. And I have to be craving the movie.
Other than that, I just like to build my "collection." 10/4/2006 3:17:56 PM |

i agree 100% with this. having a few movies is nice for lazy days where you just feel like watching one of your favs or if you have friends over, but owning a whole library of films never made much sense to me.
i can see buying them when they go on sale for 5 bux or less a dvd, but definately not new.

A note though.
If a movie is really good, I am required to buy it based on how good it is. Gladiator, braveheart fucking rule. And I own them.
But random decent movies can lick it. 10/4/2006 3:25:35 PM |
