What a vague fucking question. We don't know you. WE don't know what you do and do not like. If you're interested in IE, then by all means, give it a shot. But seriously, how the fuck are we supposed to know if it's a good idea for you or not?

Sorry. I am currently in Aerospace. Let me try some better questions... What can I do with a degree in Industrial Engineering? How difficult is the course material?

^ Much better question. The course difficulity should be equilivent to aerospace. Some may claim that it's a little easier. As for what you can do... lots. Possible jobs range from process and machine design to something more like economics in nature involving lean manufacturing practices and six-sigma design and analysis. Browse around the web for a better look at possible career options.

Most people I know consider it one of the easier if not easiest engineering major. From most descriptions of IE it seems that you can do mostly boss desk jobs.

I've had two friends that bounced around 2 or 3 engineering fields till they both hit IE and said it was easier, so I'd definitely say if you're still interested in engineering but finding every other major hard you should try it.

This scenario has a lot more complications than are being presented here. Go see somebody in the College of Engineering office (still Page Hall I think), go talk to the IE undergraduate advisor, and finally, go talk to Virtual Advising (i.e. wolfeee) ... they are fairly neutral and can approach the issue from a generalistic point of view (i.e. not having an engineering mindset) on whether you should switch or not.

As perlith mentioned, there are a lot of factors. But I'll give my opinion.

I think Industrial Engineering is nice major, with a lot of job potential. The focus is on designing processes, and process improvement. There is a materials component and a process component.

I was an IDS major who minored in IE so I got to go to classes in a lot of departments. IE classes were always hands-on, and well structured from an instructional design point of view.

In addition, an IE degree goes very well with advanced degrees, like an MBA. Many business people don't have the math necessary for serious systems analysis (appologies in advance), but an IE degree gives you the analytical skills you need for top level management. A lot of IE's with MBA's move into CEO or Operations Manager positions.

Just my 2 $$ worth ....

if you are going to make the switch - focus on supply-chain
