Isn't it about time for MLB to catch up with the times. I mean if you don't have a significant amount of money in this league you are screwed. How can the NBA have a salary cap and baseball not???

luxury taxes help out the smaller market teams with revenues they wouldnt normally get with a uniform salary cap

a cap would seem to make things more competitive but there are reasons why it probably wont ever happen

the white sox were ranked 15th in total payroll last year, the marlins were 25th in 2003, the angels were 15th in 2002

the yankees haven't won the world series since 2000

this thread sucks

Damn the A's are so good they must have a huge payroll

Honestly a salary cap in baseball is not necessary. I hate the Yankees free spending ways as much as anyone, but they take it in the ass at the end of the year and haven't won shit since 2000 so I'm cool with the current system.

The Yankees have won 9 division championships in a row, you can't write them off simply because they havent won the World Series since 2000

The Athletics are good for a whole lot of reasons that have to do with them being far ahead of the curve in valuing players. Once the rest of the league catches on those players will start getting payed a hell of a lot more.

Lastly, you can't just look at the teams that won the World Series as a judge of this issue. There are 30 teams in baseball, it's not as cut and dry as, "oh well the White Sox won and they were ranked 15th in payroll..."

Who are the teams at the bottom? Are they the ones spending all the money?

Billy Beane thinks this thread is crazy. He has been putting good teams out for years.

Put Beane in charge of the Yanks....they might not ever lose.

Salary Caps & luxury taxes dont' force teams to actually spend however. Many teams, like the DRays/Royals are happy to take their luxury tax allotment & just put it into their owners' bank account.

In the NFL, the Bengals, Eagles, & even the Patriots have been pretty bad about actually spending money.
