I'm guessing whenever Vista launches in '07 . XP will probably still be offered for a while afterwards.
That's pretty much what happened in the 98->XP transition (minus the crappy Millenium Edition)
P.S. Be prepared for about [insert very large number here] patches/fixes

from talking to a microsoft sw rep the other night:

Well if the stores I go to are any indication that means they started preloading Vista on new PCs a few weeks after labor day. 10/13/2006 1:10:11 PM |

I believe he insinuated that it was only online order from places like dell and gateway. 10/13/2006 1:35:01 PM |

Yeah, that's what I thought it was referring to. My post was more in reference to how I saw stores with Christmas decorations all over the place in the middle of September, thereby indicating that the Christmas season has already started.

I think last wednesday was the last day to get anything new on the Vista CD before they ship it to manuracturing. At least it was our hard deadline for making any changes to our inbox software for Vista. 10/13/2006 2:39:22 PM |
