Well, money is always a big thing with any job. A big-name coach won't turn down the job if enough dough is ponied up.....and thats what Bowles ie uncommunity college does well.

Bowles also has a big name and alot of resources (political as well as monetary)

UNC will go out of its way to get what they want. I grew up with Julius Peppers and played football with him in High School. He made a 720 on the SAT but got the brand new, fully loaded '98 Expedition from UNC anyway. Not only that but he got mad football gear, unc helmet and warmups for practice. I remember talking with him in middle school and he was leaning towards State and VaTech but after a few years his family's "financial situation" dissapeared and he's all of a sudden on unc's radar.

I'm telling you if NC State ever gets called out for ANYTHING infraction-wise and its led by a UNC alum, I've got all of this documented, with pictures and statements from Peppers. I'm not a backstabber but I have been a state fan forever. I'll do what i gotta do.

I still don't see how any of this is going to help UNC in their search at all. It's not like he is the end all for the $$$. They still have to vote on it if I'm not mistaken. He isn't a dictator.

Honestly, I don't doubt anything you say, but this sounds like an excuse that can be used if they happen to hire a good coach (which I still don't think they will)..

This is a desperation move on my part. Its not something that I want to come out with and make a stink while I'm trying to move up in the career world. It would take much more that what I have to make a huge impact. Peppers aunt and mother are good friends with my mother and grandmother too. Its a big personal deal as much as anything else.

You are correct and that is the conflict of interest and why we're in an uproar.

Plus, it shows mad favoritism from the "system" president. It's a sign of the way things will work if Bowles has his way.

Actually, that was only partly correct. No coach in the system will be getting paid any more by any school, which is currently set at a cap of $275,000.

The schools do not approve the endorsement deals, but they help to organize them. That is why Kay Yow gets $800,000 total per year, and Amato gets $750,000 total. (Sendek was getting $800,000).

But again, the only number that the system can affect is $275,000 base, and the Board of Governors is the group that votes on that, which Erskine Bowles is not a member of. He does not get a vote on that board.

So really folks, if all he does is talk about the position then he's not putting any undue influence on anything.

Even if he does get involved, I am confident he will only do so as Erskine Bowles, graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, and not Erskine Bowles, UNC System President, which I don't see as a conflict at all...
