HA! This is funny, I am moving to corpus mid december/early january as well for about 4-6 months then headed to who knows where... I've heard that the apartments off of saratoga (there are many apparently) are pretty decent and an easy commute to NAS, Baypoint apartments are ok, but can be smelly at low tides escpailly if close to the marshier areas. There are resturants and what not all off of the South Padre Island drive (SPID) and downtown is nice, not as big as raleigh's of course, but still pretty neat apparently.
THe beach also as mentioned is pretty dirty and pretty much something that is there but people avoid or don't go to. Lots of people have boats and that seems to be the thing to do. It's hot as heck but there is always a breeze which can be good/bad...
people that I know who have lived/stationed there liked it as well but it is super hot in the summer.
What brings you down there? I'm going for flight school... 10/29/2006 12:25:01 PM |

It's only good if you're going because you're boning a kid who wants to fly airplanes. If that's what you're doing, then you don't need to worry about the steers and queers, at least that's what I hear. If so, good on ya. 10/29/2006 12:38:15 PM |

im in the coast guard going to corpus to do my airman syllabus. then im going to AET school in april.
since im single (for now) i wonder if theyre gonna make me stay in the BEQ...
im glad ill be there for the wintertime there. im in sabine pass now and the mosquitoes suck, the humidity drives me crazy, and this nasty coffee brown water is disgusting. i literally drive through an oil refinery to get to work. that and it was destroyed by a hurricane last year and still in the process of being rebuilt.
i report in on dec 15 10/29/2006 12:52:11 PM |

whoops, didn't see that... thanks.
Thats cool, E-city isn't that bad esp for a native, not much to do there but the airstation is huge. From what I have seen so far aviation is the way to go, another friend of mine I was on the ship with and went to boot camp with is out in Cape Cod as an AET and likes it. you can't go wrong.. will you work on rotary or fixed wing or do you know yet?
Its on a Navy base which will be better than a refinery I guess but you'll be glad to be in the CG after spending some time with the Navy. We treat our people much better and don't have as much BS to deal with...

nah, havent chosen what ill be working on, i dont even think they really tell you til you get to the airstation. i dunno...
i do like the cg so far. its usually deckies vs the engineers but we engineers are way cooler and have more parties. haha. im lookin forward to going to corpus so far, just need to call ahead and see what my housing situation is gonna be like. roar! 10/29/2006 2:26:06 PM |

yeah being a non rate is not much fun sometimes, but then again can be good as there is not much responsibility compartively... I was on the gallatin as a nonrate and it was the same thing deck vs engineering. good times!
BEQ, well since its kinda short I wouldn't be surprised if you had to stay there but then again maybe not since you are PCS'ing there.... belive me the coast guard is great, I totally was just looking to get the gi bill and go to grad school when I joined, never knew I'd like it so much! 10/29/2006 11:43:38 PM |

I live in the Corpus Christi now. I have to agree with Duke...it is a shithole. It is better then P-cola in some ways, but worse in many others. If you are married, or have your woman living with you, the job market sucks big time and be prepared for her to work at a temp place.
The apartments in town are hit or miss. You can live on the island and pay for a beach house, but then you are 25 min. drive to anything past the air station.
Overall Corpus has dirty beaches, but you can drive and have bonfires on them....which makes for a great drunk night with your friends. But the water is nasty because you are in the armpit of the gulf.
Corpus has more places to eat, things to do, places to party then p-cola (assuming that is where you are coming from). But you will have to drive to get anywhere else...Houston - 4.5 hours, San Antonio - 2.5 hours, Mexico - 2 Hours.

at least corpus had the ocean near by. Now, if you want to talk shitty places to get stationed, try Meridian, MS.
Being 30 minutes from the setting of Mississippi Burning can lead to some interesting things. If you thought there are rednecks in NC, think again. I was called a yankee b/c I was from NORTH Carolina. It says North so I must be a yankee. 11/2/2006 12:16:11 AM |
