^^ i don't...but i do travel to remote areas away from major cities and highways and demand that my phone work, which is why CDMA is the best option for me

Most gadgety phones are GSM, you just don't notice it because they are never released in the US. I have an unlocked w810i and it is awesome, much better than any CDMA phone I had while I was with Verizon. 10/30/2006 1:03:21 PM |

yeah i dont quite understand that comment. most of the best phones are made for the world market (aka GSM) since they're more willing to throw down a chuck on $$$ for a phone than we are.10/30/2006 1:14:51 PM |

Yeah, once again, the w810i is awesome. These are photos taken with this phone while I was in Italy this past week.
Not too shabby for a phone!!

yeah, it's not very clear...i meant that the vast vast VAST majority of gadgety phones are GSM (for the reasons mentioned above)...the world would be a better place if they adopted CDMA and ditched GSM, but that's not going to happen10/30/2006 7:57:38 PM |

^I will say the data rate for CDMA (EVDO) seems faster than the GSM date rate. Still, if you want the latest and greatest, you must buy unlocked GSM phones.

This is true, for example GSM won't work in the mountains. Although, CDMA is about to drop its analog backbone in a couple years, some places have already started ripping out there Amps equipment. So, if they don't install new digital BTSs in those places you'll be fucked

I live out in the sticks of NE NC and just traveled to Arkansas and had a great experience with my VZW digital only phone. Excellent reception in the mountains, and its only a dual-band digital, so I can't get the ol' analog towers. But even through Tennessee and eastern/central Arkansas I had great reception.
To tell you how happy I am with it, I am leaving the company I sold VZW phones for, but I am still purchasing the phone from them and getting an employee plan setup before I bounce. I'll still be on part-time so I'm technically not gone all together, but $20/month for 600 national minutes and 600 N&W and 1000/txt messages and Mobile Web 2.0 included at no extra cost is a pretty solid deal. 10/30/2006 8:51:33 PM |

I mentioned this to my brother since his contract ended a few months ago. He tried to do an upgrade but when it asked for his sim card number, something about his sim card being too old and 18 digits. I was told the new ones are like 20 digits.
PS. CrazyJ, since this thread interested you, mind giving me premium for a year?? 10/30/2006 11:41:11 PM |

People considering this deal should note that if you sign up for a Cingular contract through Amazon, you effectively have two contracts. Its not a big deal up front, but if for some reason you need to cancel your plan, you will have two bigass early termination fees. Proceed with caution. 10/31/2006 11:31:00 AM |

From amazon.com:
Quote : | "Equipment Discount Information: Your price paid includes an equipment discount of $250 that has been provided to you by Amazon.com for activating a new, non-substitute line of service with Cingular and maintaining this new line of service with the selected rate plan in good standing for a minimum of 181 consecutive days. If these conditions are not met, you herein agree to a $250 reimbursement to be paid to Amazon.com. This reimbursement of the $250 equipment discount will only be charged if the above conditions are not met. See full service requirements." |

^No that is a 2nd contract, because if you break it, you have to pay. Cingular's contract is 2yr/$175 cancellation fee, and Amazon.com's is 181 days/$250. 11/1/2006 1:24:03 PM |

I'm looking into getting this phone (maybe even from amazon) and was wondering how cingulars coverage was in this area... tired of my nextel phones breaking all the time and overpaying for service.
Anyone with cingular have recommendations about their service around here? 11/13/2006 2:27:44 PM |

Few questions:
Someone mentioned two contracts, what does that mean? I would have to keep the Cingular service for a min of 181 days to get the -$250, is that what you're talking about?
What plan do you have to get with Cingular?
What are the pros and cons with this phone?
This just seems too good to be true.
and, just to add to my n00bness, what exactly is flashing the phone?
