Over the years I have come to highly respect you and your thoughts pertaining to politics. I know you work in the government so please correct me if this is an over generalization, but it has been my observation that North Carolina Democrats are leaps and bounds different than what the media has come to label as to who is a democrat.

Hey TGD, I'm starting to borrow from Reagan, change it up a bit and tell people

"I didn't leave the Republican party, the Republican party left me."

Sadly, I certainly didn't get picked up my the democratic agenda. 3rd party waste of vote for me!

From the looks of things, you must not be much of a conservative in the first place if you're considering backing some of those candidates. I'm having a hard time seeing what would posses someone who is a true conservative to not vote against someone like Brad Miller. What is so un-conservative about his opponent, or Bill Mansell for that matter?

and brad miller is the epitome of a far-left tax-happy liberal who is out of touch with the values of most people.

vernon robinson is a social conservative and an economic conservative. what is so wrong with that? you might disagree with him, but he is certainly not out of touch with the majority, who desire lower taxes, immigration reform, and to not give special rights.

I want TGD and bgmims to tell me why they think they are "conservatives" if they will not back conservative candidates or even go as far as to back far-left candidates like brad miller, who votes more to the left than 93% of congress.

Randy, you can go fuck yourself. a) I'm not a citizen on NC so I won't be voting for Brad Miller regardless and
b) Have you seen anything conservative done in 12 years? I'm a social moderate-to-liberal and a fiscal conservative. I don't think stopping people from playing poker, starting an inevitable infringement of my rights, building a useless wall that won't do anything but hurt our economy, and stopping teh gays from committing to one another is something to be excited about.

The way I feel about politics right now is that if we give up the House, but keep the Senate then the government will stalemate. That's the best thing we can get out of either of these parties.

BTW, I certainly don't support the democrats. They're going to fuck up our healthcare system beyond repair, ignore fixing social security (that godforsaken piece of shit), and raise the minimum wage which is a political ploy and nothing more (and conveniently fucks those its 'meant to help').

You're no conservative Randy. You're borderline fascist and I'm sick of you fucking up the name of fiscal conservatism as if you speak for it on this messageboard.

I'd say generally that's the case. Because North Carolina was effectively a one-party state for so long, a very substantial portion of the Democratic party is still conservative, pro-market, anti-government type folks who joined the party back then and haven't fully migrated to the GOP.

But, more significantly -- a good chunk of the existing and ascendant Republican "conservatives" are corrupt as hell. Hence a "conservative" legislator who talks a lot about morality and ethics but accepts free Stanley Cup tickets from lobbyists, a "conservative" Clerk of Superior Court who coerces her employees to campaign for her, a "conservative" Sheriff who spends his free time banging a married woman, etc etc etc

I agree with every single thing you have said there, and so does every TRUE conservative. Get your facts straight before you attack me. I want the minimum wage GONE for GOOD. I want social security GONE FOR GOOD. I want healthcare 100% PRIVATE AND HANDS OFF FROM THE GOVERNMENT.

Get your facts straight before you call me a facist, I really don't appreciate it.

Furthermore, Brad Miller is one of the LEAST EFFECTIVE CONGRESSMEN. Learn before you vote.

You pretty much refer to anyone even mildly on the left (or moderate) as a radical socialist or communist, with some implacation that we/they want to destroy the country, preferably by letting the great Muslim/Atheist/Gay threat bring it down, sounds awfully familiar.

Well okay so you aren't blaming it all on the Jews this time around.

Once again....those using the word fascist must have no earthly idea what it means.
Wow..he wants healthcare left private.
Oh MY...He wants to stop paying into a retirement plan that will be gone before he retires.
Dear me...He does not want the min wage.
Any person trying to spit out fascist on that is simply a fool.
And Hitler?..Yaknow..perhaps if you are going to keep throwing out ridiculous accusations, perhaps you can at least try a few new names.
Geez...
All we ever hear from a Liberal....Fascist, Hitler, Tyrant, Stalin, communist and a few others.

Oh no.....They raised the price of milk..THOSE FASCIST!!!
Somebdy wants to be left alone..WHY IT SOUNDS LIKE HITLER!!!
See how ridiculous you sound?

Do we suspect that the left wants to destroy the country?....The rank and file?..no.
But there is ceratinly enough evidence that the leadership of the left is NOT on the side of the US.
Durban compares our troops to Pol-Pot.
Do I even have to go into Kerry's top 10?
CNN will air the killing of an American Soldier by a terrorist..but God FORBID we ever see any military video that is positive.
So if you are upset that the right questions that the left is on the side of the US, perhaps you should have a chat with your own leadership.

And I hate to break it to you....
The GOP may lose a few seats..not enough to lose control of the house and Senate.

Do not worry though left..
Just polish off your handfull of words to start throwing amoung your whining that somehow the election was STOLEN.
We know it is coming.

I met a self described fascist once. He suggested the current political aparatus should be replaced with a central committee in charge of setting prices, authorizing construction, assigning jobs, and directing business. He said the first act should be to gradually relocate everyone to tightly packed population centers to make them easier to monitor and control. The added benefit would be to eliminate the automobile so the central committee could prevent un-authorized inter-city travel and control the movement of information.

He seemed irked when I suggested me and everyone I knew would raise up an army against him and his central committee. He was double irked when I suggested the odds were against him being appointed to the same central committee.

"Fascism is a set of ideologies and practices that seeks to place the nation, defined in exclusive biological, cultural, and/or historical terms, above all other sources of loyalty, and to create a mobilized national community. Fascist hostility to socialism and feminism, for they are seen as prioritizing class or gender rather than nation. This is why fascism is a movement of the extreme right. Fascism is also a movement of the radical right because the defeat of socialism and feminism and the creation of the mobilized nation are held to depend upon the advent to power of a new elite acting in the name of the people, headed by a charismatic leader, and embodied in a mass, militarized party. Fascists are pushed towards conservatism by common hatred of socialism and feminism, but are prepared to override conservative interests - family, property, religious, the universities, the civil service - where the interests of the nation are considered to require it. Fascist radicalism also derives from a desire to assuage discontent by accepting specific demands of the labour and women's movements, so long as these demands accord with the national priority. Fascists seek to ensure the harmonization of workers' and women's interests with those of the nation by mobilizing them within special sections of the party and/or within a corporate system. Access to these organizations and to the benefits they confer upon members depends on the individual's national, political, and/or racial characteristics. All aspects of fascist policy are suffused with ultranationalism."

Interesting note: my dad works for the dept. of ag. and was telling me that multiple dairies in NY state have had to shut down in the past year after getting immigrant-raided. all their workers were kicked out/put in jail, and now they're out of business. Good job, Vernon Robinson-types!

the only person on the ballot I'm making a point not to vote for is John Baker

that fucker ragged on me for 30 minutes about being a state fan/student and telling me all about "his heels" etc etc

I wanted to vomit, especially since he never went there

then 3 days later his ass was at carter finley on a microphone telling people how he was a lifelong state fan and how he loved the wolfpack (it was right before the election in 04)

yeah yeah, harrison was banging a married(seperated) woman... it's not cool and I think it's kinda shitty especially since he is a lawman

but the fact remains that Harrison, is a sworn law enforcement officer and puts his uniform on everyday and actually drives around in his car... he is a lawman more so than a politician

I'm close with many people from the sheriffs office from bakers tenure and harrisons...

baker fired numerous deputies that helped harrison on his first campaign (almost all deputies that helped him out had to do it on the down low or risk being fired)

when harrison finally was elected these deputies came back

baker wouldn't promote jail guards to deputies as he told people he would do, harrison promoted them for their service

baker wasn't a sworn LEO and didn't wear the uniform a single day in office.

baker rode his fame from being an NFL player into the office of Sheriff and did very little to actually improve the department or the quality of law enforcement in the county

deputies that were in his clique would often sit out calls and talk while other deputies had to go to calls, sometimes passing these others while they "chilled in a parking lot"

I'm just passing on what I know about baker... I voted for him in 2 previous elections, but after dating the daughter of someone that ranked pretty high in the department for 5 years and meeting numerous deputies and hanging out with them one on one and almost becoming a deputy (I broke my back and neck 2 days before my formal welcoming with the sheriff and had a change of plans), I think I may know a little bit

That's in his favor IMO. The sheriff works for the people. He shouldn't be indoctrinated in the police culture.

The fact that a lot of folks in the dept don't like Baker, could just as easily be because he's not part of the good ole boys network and holds people accountable for bullshit.

Baker suffers from the same problem with his policies and hiring procedures...ie sticking white guys int he jail and not promoting them

and sorry, the job may be had by an election, but the head of a law enforcement agency should be a lawman, not a politician... esp one that rode the coat tails of his father in SE raleigh and the coat tails of his NFL career and hasn't served the citizens of the county for anything but political power

but whatever... they both suck, one just happens to not suck as much as the other

btw, if baker gets in, look for officers to quit, "retire", and be fired immediately because baker will be bringing back all of his clique

the clique that sits on their ass in parking lots while their fellow LEOs are left to take calls alone

baker is a piece of shit, and a wal mart tar heel fan to boot

like I said, I'm no Baker fan either. I used to work for the Clerk of Superior Court (who is herself corrupt as hell) and saw some of the mess that Baker left behind.

but my ex-gf is black, and used to attend Republican political functions with me -- and Harrison's comments when he ran for election in '02, in what was an otherwise all-white crowd, pretty much nullified any chance of me ever voting for him, ever. he could be Jesus Christ Himself and he still wouldn't get my vote.

I'm probably going to write in "Mickey Mouse" or something and let everyone else make the decision...

word around the Legislature is that the Speakership is his if he wants it.

he'll have to do some arm-twisting though, a few Black loyalists will still be bitter over his bargain with Republicans, and there's no guarantee he'll be able to get the GOP on-board

I'd be fine with it though, he's a good guy and incredibly intelligent.

Good ballot TGD, very balanced and thoughtout. I wish I knew more about Harrison before I voted for him tho. Seeing as the County's been improving in safety and never really had any Mecklenburg-esk problems is the reason he got my vote this time. But apparently buyer's remorse comes early this year.
