My bro's laptop won't go to its desktop. Right after the the Windows XP loads, it just goes blank. I was just changing the power settings on his laptop, then his Spybot S&D thing pops up asking if it should deny some executables. I just x-ed it and denied some stuff. I restarted his computer and then after loading it just blank. I tried restarting it to safe mode but won't go to safe mode either. I dunno what I did but please help.

I can't go into safe mode what-so-ever...it get's stuck listing all those drivers i'm guessing and ends at MUP.exe or somethin and just stays there 11/4/2006 9:25:34 PM |

I had a similar problem a few days ago. I unplugged all my usb devices and windows booted up fine. It turned out to be something funky with my IPOD (probably a driver). I removed the IPOD and bam it booted perfectly. 11/4/2006 10:23:09 PM |

MUP.sys? Usually that's an indication of a graphic driver incompatibility ... (note, it's not MUP, the next file that loads after it is what gets stuck ... the graphics driver); see it with Sysprep a lot. Weird it is showing up on a laptop though.
You are pretty much screwed on this item if you can't get into safe mode. Reinstall Windows. 90% of your apps should still work fine. Just make sure you get security updates after you reinstall.
