Quote :
"Predicted order of finish
1. North Carolina — The Heels' second five is athletic and talented enough to make the NCAA Tournament.
2. Duke — Frontcourt depth is a concern. Come to think of it, so is backcourt depth.
3. Boston College — Al Skinner needs to recruit better players. For now, however, the Eagles' balance and experience will be enough to win a solid majority of conference contests.
4. Florida State — Jason Rich will develop into a bona fide third option this season.
5. Georgia Tech — Zam Fredrick will be missed, but there is more than enough talent returning. Paul Hewitt has the Yellow Jackets working hard to improve their defense.
6. Virginia — The frontcourt doesn't measure up.
7. Virginia Tech — This much is true: The Hokies will be healthier than last season.
8. Maryland — How the mighty have fallen.
9. Clemson — Oliver Purnell is among the most underrated coaches in America.
10. Wake Forest — A talented recruiting class will make its impact felt in the second half of league play.
11. Miami — The two Anthonys, Harris and King, need to elevate their games.
12. North Carolina State — Now that Andrew Brackman has decided against playing basketball, Wolfpack fans will get exactly what they deserve. They chased a good man — and a good coach —out of town.

Crystal Ball
Player of the Year: Tyler Hansbrough, North Carolina. The complete package. Can score, rebound and pass. Long and quick, he is a tenacious offensive rebounder.

Newcomer of the Year: Toney Douglas, Florida State. A little selfish, but an exceptional talent. No reason to believe he won't match — or nearly match — his freshman year at Auburn, when he averaged 17 points and five rebounds a game.

Game of the Year: Boston College at Florida State in mid-February. Will help decide the intriguing race for third place. The winner should be regarded as a legitimate Elite Eight threat and the loser as Sweet 16 material at best.

NCAA Tournament Teams: North Carolina, Duke, Boston College, Florida State and Georgia Tech. No league club will be seeded lower than eighth.

NIT Tournament Teams: Virginia, Maryland and Virginia Tech. If only the Cavaliers had better options in the frontcourt. If only the Terrapins had more talent in the backcourt.

Coach who may get fired: Sidney Lowe, North Carolina State. ACC coaches this year have more job security than coaches in any other league. But if the bottom falls out in Lowe's first season in Raleigh, look for the rumors to start in year two.

"

I supported Herb as much as anyone but for the love of god people please move on and give us a break.

Herb took a top 3 ACC team and shit his pants with them all the way to a second round elimination.

aside from the bit about Lowe possibly getting fired, and the fact that it seems a bit unprofessional, the piece is spot on.

What's with the name calling?

#12 Wake Forest 82, #4 NC State 71

That's all you need to think about when it comes to Herb Sendek.

yes, generally one game does describe a decade of coaching. Good call.

Ok, I'm sorry for not clarifying.

Nothing was working and NCSU was getting humiliated in the process.

He was a good man and generally a good coach. 2006 just imploded on him. Not everyone acts rationally when emotions get involved. As I stated earlier, I didn't think people really thought Lowe had a ton of job security to begin with.

I think the problem is that Lowe WILL have a lot of job security simply because he isn't Herb. Our whole fanbase has the mentality that this year basketball is awesome, despite the results, simply because Herb is gone.

I don't see that mentality fading very soon, but you never know.

Personally, I was sad to see Sendek go, but I wish Lowe all the best and hope to see us go on to prosper as a program. I WANT Lowe to be a good coach, I WANT us to have a great season, I WANT us to make it to the NCAA, I just have a hard time seeing it happen.

Well, at least journalists aren't expecting Lowe to do anything this year. He's completely under the radar.

That article is ridiculous.

Herb left. Get over it. We may have wanted his ass out, but we certainly didn't run his ass out.

And Sid has job security issues this year?

He could pretty much finish last and live up to expectations this year....WTF...
