I think its always good to have firsts on the Hill, so long as they are the best candidate. I didn't follow this race, so I really couldn't comment on that, but celebrating the first this and the first that isn't important unless they're also well qualified. (I'm assuming this guy is though)

i agree. I hate it when the media makes a big deal out of having the first so n so become whatever and they end up tanking.

I was listening to a black radio show one morning and the general feeling was to vote for the brother. The problem is when they vote for someone less qualified and they end up making them all look like baffoons.
