Virginia--

Webb: 1,172,411 (+7262)
Allen: 1,165,149
Parker: 26,102

99% of precincts reporting?

Oh, and if you go to the "Votes by County" page, they ALL have 100%...

(EDIT: Just saw "Isles of Wight" county, the ONLY one left, Webb with 57% and 92% of precincts reporting...)

so where is this 1% coming from? This one county with 92% in and Webb the clear victor?

Just call it for Webb, and call dems > reps for senate already, jesus. I seriously think they're just holding like that for publicity.

Allen won many counties, and it is less than 6,000 votes.

not all the absentee ballots have been counted also

In the state of VA if the difference between 2 candidates is less than 1/2% there is an automatic recount

if there is greater than 0.5% difference, the candidate who wants a recount is required to pay for a recount

right now there is a 0.3% difference

I'm in favor of a recount...just on principle, not because I think the outcome will change.

Virginia's got different rules on recounts than Montana.

I don't see any harm in recounting when <1% is between the two. Nothing wrong with making sure the dead people and the current felons haven't voted or that some provisionals weren't left out. And counting absentee ballots is okay too.

Regardless of which party is benefitting, a recount isn't a big deal.

Oh and btw, Webb wins in VA, 51(+1Lieber) for Dems, lets see if they can get sensible legislation passed like the changes in '94.

How do you know it won't change a fucking thing?

Besides, we need the last numbers from the absentee ballots

If the bulk of the remaining absentee ballots are MIL, or CIV then Allen could very well win the election.

Because of the margin of error and because the absentee ballots have not been counted yet. As I said, if the absentees are a majority CIV, or MIL then Allen has a good chance of winning.

why would these not have already been tabulated with the rest of the votes...they shouldnt have to have a recount for that

For some reason or another they haven't been counted yet. I can't answer for that. And as I said, if they are a majority CIV or MIL then the difference will be much less and the result of a recount could change who the winner is.

ok well under those conditions(people voted but for some reason their votes have not been counted yet, even though polls are closed) then i agree to a recount

usually in most states absentee votes are not counted until 1-7 days after the election

some states have rules on when they have to be counted...I need to dig on the VA rules

^Someone obviously didn't see when Fox news was the first station to "call Florida for Bush" (coincidentally, a Bush relative was working on the Fox news team for that broadcast) which then in turn caused all the other stations to dogpile minutes later and "call Florida for Bush" which THEN in turn made Gore seem like a sore loser instead of being on equal footing with Bush.

Quote :
"Fox News consultant involved in making judgments about presidential "calls" on Election Night admits he was in touch with George W. Bush and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush by telephone several times during the evening, but denies having broken any rules.

Fox is considering disciplinary action against the consultant, John Ellis, who is a cousin to Bush and a former Boston Globe columnist who stopped writing about the campaign for the paper, citing family "loyalty" to Bush.

On Election Night, Ellis headed a four-person team that analyzed Voter News Service (VNS) exit poll data for the network and made judgments about which candidate would win each state when all the votes had been counted. The decision to broadcast those projections was made by a Fox executive.

At 2:16 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Fox became the first network to call Florida for Bush. Minutes later, CBS, ABC, NBC, and CNN made the same call.

VNS is an exit polling service created by the networks and the Associated Press to provide data to subscriber news organizations on Election Day.

Before votes are counted and made public, journalists use VNS to see how the vote is going among people who participated in the polling. The data, which updates continuously on Election Night, can also be used to divine trends, such as how Americans of a given gender, age bracket, income or religion are voting.

The contract between VNS and its subscribers prohibits news organizations from broadcasting/publishing or sharing a state's election results with non-subscribers, until a "large majority" of polls have closed in that state.

The New Yorker magazine reported that Ellis "relay[ed] early vote counts [to Austin] as they showed up on his screens." Ellis admits to having been in touch with George W. and Jeb Bush several times during the evening, but denies having violated VNS rules and Fox policy.

Whether Ellis violated the letter of the VNS contract or not, it’s fat on the fire of the controversy engulfing the Florida vote, which already includes an examination of conscience at network news organizations over their role in the confusion about the outcome of the vote there.

Ellis provided CBSNews.com with a copy of a letter he says he sent to the editor of the New Yorker. In the letter, Ellis says that he “did not share with [Governor Bush] any of the information that was appearing on our screens" during two afternoon phone calls.

The letter says that later in the evening "as actual vote results" came in, Ellis spoke frequently with the Bushes about "what was happening” in several states. According to Ellis, other workers on the decision desk – “most of whom are registered Democrats” – were talking to the Gore campaign.

Ellis says that he was ultra-scrupulous because of his relationship. "We obeyed those [rules] more strictly than any oter news organization, precisely because my cousin was running for president," Ellis told USA Today.

Fox spokesman Robert Zimmerman would not say who is involved in the in-house discussion of what to do about the Ellis phone calls."

He wasn't the winner, that's the point. Someone called it prematurely. Wouldn't you cry foul?
