Oh how exciting these next few weeks would be if the CFB had a playoff!
make it a 6 team playoff where #1 and #2 get byes and have #6 @ #3, and #5 @ #4
If that system were in place OSU vs. Michigan would be for a bye and maybe to be in it at all…would still be huge game. So many games coming up would be huge. USC vs Cal would probably play for a spot in the playoff…The SEC title game would be for a spot in if it ends up Florida vs Auburn (Arkansas has to lose twice with Tennessee and LSU still to play). The Notre Dame vs USC game could even be for a spot in. Let say for argument sake USC beats Cal and ND and Florida rolls thru the SEC title game and OSU beat Michigan.
The matchups may be:
Byes: #1 Ohio St. and #2 Louisville
Round #1: #6 USC @ #3 Florida #5 Texas @ #4 Michigan
Round #2: USC/Florida @ #1 Ohio State Texas/Michigan @ #2 Louisville
Championship: Round #2 winners neutral site (Rose Bowl, Cardinals Stadium, Dolphin Stadium, Superdome)
I know that CFB is a $$$ business and I don’t see how those games wouldn’t make it even bigger…the advertising $$$ for those games would kill the BCS. Now that the BCS has an extra game its gotten even worse…not that the Utah vs Pitt game was huge, but Wake Forest vs Boise State is going to get huge ratings…or whoever ends up in the 4 BCS games that don’t matter.
How great would that be...and there would be very little to whine about with the Big East...they get there shot and would likely get hammered by whoever they played. This would also eliminate crap teams from playing in good games. Right now there are only about 3 schools who think they have a legit shot at the National title...if this system was in place all these teams would still be very much alive: Ohio St., Michigan, Louisville, Texas, Auburn, Florida, USC, Cal, Notre Dame, Arkansas, LSU, Rutgurs.
I guess I can only dream. 11/9/2006 11:26:14 AM |

i talked about this the other day with my friend...
we came up with an 8 team playoff...they will play the playoff games at the BCS bowl game sites (rose, fiesta, etc)...
and then theyll still use all the other bowls for the shitty teams
its a win/win situation 11/9/2006 11:32:25 AM |

Yeah, I'd like to see an 8 team playoff but I don't see the BCS being changed anytime soon. 11/9/2006 11:34:37 AM |

The only way I see change in the BCS is if Louisville ran the table and went to a BCS game other than the National Title game and blew out a really good 1 loss team (Texas, Michigan/OSU loser, etc.) and a 1 loss team (Florida, Auburn, etc.) went to the NC game and won over the OSU/Mich winner.
Leave Louisville the only undeafeted team and they never even got a chance. People would go crazy and demand change then. I think the change would be a plus 1 system thoough instead of a true playoff. 11/9/2006 11:40:33 AM |

There is no way in hell the BCS bowls would ever consider downgrading their importance/status. 11/9/2006 11:42:01 AM |

Just ain't gonna happen. Besides, this is college football; the kids are students first, in theory. Dragging the football season out would look irresponsible. 11/9/2006 11:43:40 AM |

I've said that since there are about 30 bowl games already, have a 32 game playoff. It would require 31 games, which could be in bowl locations. Make it regional, to where nobody has to travel a great distance. Who knows, then the Meineke Car Care Bowl could mean something. 11/9/2006 12:22:38 PM |

Personally I would just like to see a +1 situation. 4 teams play in two games to determine who plays in the national championship game. It's only one more game that they would have to play and it gives the top 4 teams a shot at a NC, which solves the problems with the BCS because there hasn't really been BCS controversy over any team outside the top 4.

if we have 31 bowl games in a playoff structure, a lot less teams will be in bowl games. think about it, mcfly.

^^^ teams won't give up their regular season games, maybe 1 or 2 tops. That means that the teams that play for the championship in your system would play a 17 game season to win it all? How long would you want this thing to last?
Great idea, 8 team playoff, good idea 6 team, decent idea BCS + 1(championship), bad idea what we have now, worse idea what will be in place next year when there are 5 BCS games, which depending on the year will give us 2 orange bowls, or 2 rose bowls.. how stupid.
Doesn't matter, not getting changed anyway. System as is now makes to much money, although I don't see why having 3 more games that pit the top teams in the country wouldn't make more money in the long run. 11/9/2006 12:31:24 PM |

this is going to sound crazy, but i wish there was no national championship.
i wish college football would go back to just having traditional bowls. no bcs, no nat'l championship game, no chik-fil-a renaming the peach bowl, no 6-6 teams getting invites to the car care bowl or whatever else. only meaningful bowls, and no nat'l champ crowned that is suspect to say the least as to whether or not they actually deserve to be the champs. 11/9/2006 12:33:45 PM |

there has always been a national champion crowned though. it was just done by the voters, and there are several years in the past that there were multiple national champions. there were 3 national champions in 1919, 3 in 1933, 4 in 1935, from 1964-1966 there were 7 teams named champions. there were 2 in 1990, and 1991. I atleast like the attempt to try to give us 1 national champion, even though the process is stupid. better then having 3 of them. 11/9/2006 12:41:48 PM |

I would be happy if they would just keep the BCS system from last year in place & then just added a game championship game, which took the top 2 teams AFTER playing their bowl gamls (like when they're playing the title game now). It doesn't really do anything to the BCS & still sets the stage for a playoff-type system. When is there ever more than 2 teams with legit title hopes after playing one BCS bowl game?
V By last years system, I I didn't mean 1v2. I meant just keep the 4 BCS bowl & let them take their traditional teams, like the Rose bowl still would probably get P10/B10, Orange gets ACC/BEast, Fiesta get B12, Sugar gets SEC. Although, there would need to be a measure in place that ensures 2 of the top 3 teams play each other, where the lower seeded team goes to the others bowl games.

only thing that would have to be changed though is that you can't use last years system, make 1 and 2 play, and then let whoever ends up at 2 after play that winner.
would need to mix it all up and play then see who the top 2 teams are after the 4 games, or make it 1v4, 2v3. after reading this i'm not sure if what i'm tryin to say makes sense, hopefully it does. 11/9/2006 12:45:24 PM |

Auburn and USC both have claimed titles and made their own trophies, rings, etc. in the last few years.
Funny but shows how crappy the system is. 11/9/2006 2:19:04 PM |
