I am not concluding anything. I think it is pretty well established, though, that at this point in time (2 years before the election) that Hilary seems to be the front runner for the nomination should she choose to run at all. Therefore, it was relevant for him to bring up *gasp* a Clinton in this conversion.

Other times, it is pretty ignorant for the standard republican response to be "oh yeah! well Clinton did it too....duuuuuurrrrrrr"

i will kinda-sorta agree with nutsmackr that Senator McCain is not a renegade or maverick in the sense that he's a RINO (as many people seem to have some illusion of). He's is quite clearly very much a Republican, probably more so than most of those in the party right now.

However, he has demostrated on a number of occassions that he has no qualms about breaking ranks and butting heads with the GOP establishment. In that sense, I would say that he is a maverick of sorts.


In any case, I hope he gets elected. He would be some serious good medicine for America. I could probably get on board with Giuliani as his running mate, too...but that ticket would probably be a little much for the GOP base, largely because they don't know what's good for them (i.e., the difference in public perception versus reality for both of those men, particularly McCain).

McCain will suffer from the same disadvantage that Gore did back in 2000. Everyone wanted to forget Clinton and his scandels, and that meant not voting for his VP. McCain will suffer the backlash of being a Republican thanks to Bush's gaffes these past eight years. Just look at the midterms. A vote for democrats = a vote for change.

I hope I'm wrong too, b/c McCain would get my vote in a heartbeat. He's a Republican to be sure, but he breaks ranks when the current administration tries to pull some shit. And honestly, I'll vote for Nader before I vote for Hillary...

I think the result will be a bit different when the question is "Should we give one party both branches?" That seems to cause a lot of the rubber-stamping that ends in corruption. Also, people should realize that McCain isn't involved in the same kinds of things they hated Bush for. The only major hurdle for McCain is going to be Iraq. He holds an actual stance on it, based on fixing the country, and people aren't going to like it.
