it can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. be careful and don't have the fryer in a garage or right next to the house so you don't burn it down.

I would be more concerned with the demonstration and blowing up that propane cylinder

The one time I've had deep fried thanksgiving turkey it tasted like shit anyhow, I much prefer the slow oven cooked traditional turkey

applying heat to a compressed gas cylinder is a bad idea, even if it would take a while to detonate.

plus any idiot who sets their house on fire deep frying a turkey most likely deserved it, for being an idiot

I just bought a deep fryer, but I don't think it would hold a turkey. I'ma cook some crab cakes in it though.

Deep fried turkets are pretty good if done right but they don't hold the same flavor. I much prefer a slowly cooked turket in a bag with spices and such. The taste is so much better, juicier if done right

You just know that there's going to be houses aflamin' about 11am tomorrow. I put the over/under for Wake county at 8 by tomorrow night.

Deep frying's fine, but a bagged, slow roasted turkey is awesome if done correctly. Smoked is also one of my favorites.

Probbly because it was my dumb shit redneck cousin who did the cooking, and it was shit. I'd be willing to try another deep fried turkey at some point, but I think this year it'll be the old fashioned slow cooked oven style

under a lot of circumstances . . . yes, but certainly not all

I've heard of people that we're very cautious and cooked the turkey in the yard away from the house, but something went wrong and the grass caught on fire and spread to the house and the house burned down.

there are plenty of circumstances where things happen that are out of your control

Common mistakes

1) Filled too high with oil (Use water in the thing fill it up, add the turkey. pour down to a safe level. Remove turkey. That's the line you fill the oil to.).
2) Oil too hot when turkey added
3) Turkey not completely defrosted (hot oil reacts violently with cold anything)
4) Keep at least 20 feet away from the house or anything flammable. If you can't... don't fry a turkey.
5) Do not use your hands to put the turkey into the oil. Use some twine and tie it to a broom handle if you're desperate. Lower it SLOWLY into the oil.
6) Make sure this is located in a no KID area. Nothing like oil frying up a kid for thanksgiving.
7) If you have a beltbuckle, drive a truck with a dixie flag, or chew tobacco... don't fry up one of these! Chances are you'll be one of the predicted 8 from above.

I always hear that deep fried turkey is better because it's juicier. Well, I'm sorry if the females in your family can't properly oven roast a juicy, delicious turkey, but my grandma can and I will take that over a deep fried turkey any day.

a propane cylinder will not detonate, it will vent through the port that faces away from the threaded part of the valve, and it takes a good bit of heat to make it do it. I have done it.

^uhhh, yeah, it will detonate. it just takes some time and a lot of heat. yes, it has a purge valve but can be overcome. the term is BLEVE (pronounced blevy). or Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion. a bleve actually has nothing to do with the propane. it can be done with water. the propane will just add to the explosion and create a hell of a fireball.

My dad and I overflowed the oil out of the barrel one year, we realized there was too much oil first though and used a broom to drop the turkey in. It solved the problem of weeds growing through the patio bricks for a while.

We deep fried a turkey this year. If you just read the instructions and not be a complete dumbass, it's easy to do without losing the skin on your arms/face or toastin your house.

We injected with a garlic/chili powder marinade and put a rub on the outside. We cooked it a little too long, but it was still juicy and definately held the flavor really well. Better than any oven-cooked turkey I've ever had.
