wildwood green is a decent public course
i like lochmere too
anything is better than rga
but then those are the only 3 public courses ive played in raleigh. i played north ridge once and saw how the other side lived...thats one beautiful course. 11/24/2006 9:36:59 PM |

Nah son. Eagle Ridge. Hands down. http://www.ergc.biz
The student rate is $29, and they have GPS. You won't find a course that has a more unique set of holes. Lochmere is always too wet, RGA is too short, and Crooked Creek is too far. Trust me, you'll love it. It's always in great shape, and you'll use every club in your bag. 11/24/2006 10:08:43 PM |

Crooked Creek is an awesome course to play. It's a very tough course, but even if you stink it up, you'll love playing it. Easily the most fun course I've played. 11/24/2006 10:41:55 PM |

^~6 Cheviot closed a couple months ago. Somebody offered the right price on the land.
I'll agree on Eagle Ridge as one of the better public courses around here. 11/24/2006 11:15:14 PM |

I would throw in Wil-Mar just because it is so damn cheap. If you have the Lung Society discount card its only $18 bucks I think it was.. maybe 16. You can get a 6-pack for $7.50 too.
I consider that the best for the price but I would also say Eagle R. is nice too. 11/25/2006 1:36:52 PM |

Raleigh has some dogshit public courses. Depending on what you want, you can always drive the hour to pinehurst and play some 4 star tracks. They also tend to be in much better shape in the wintertime. Most Raleigh tracks don't overseed and if they do, they don't do it very well. Plus, most are wet as a dog's ass from Nov - Mar. 12/5/2006 8:05:27 AM |

Eagle Ridge, Crooked Creek, Wildwood Green is ok too but it's tight. They also have the GPS and IMO it's better than the one at Eagle Ridge. They have screens in the cart and above your bag on the outside. It also gives you distance to pin, not just green. 12/5/2006 10:32:41 AM |

Eagle Ridge is by far the best public course IMO. The conditions are great, GPS, and its pretty challenging. Its a must play in Raleigh. Crooked Creek is also a good course. I think its $30 to play after 12 for students. That is a awesome price for the course. It has elevated tees and some good layouts. Reedy creek and Hedingham are good courses for the money but not as good conditions as ER and CC. 12/5/2006 11:46:57 AM |

^^ Do you mean brevofield in wake forest?
i played there once...its like they plopped a basic golf course on top of pasture land. not very exciting or challenging, but i enjoyed it because i was driving great and the fairways are wide its basic, but fun.

brevofield requires that you wear jeans, a wifebeater, and mesh hat before you are allowed on the first tee. 1/4/2007 7:50:20 AM |

Lakeshore in Durham is pretty cheap. 12 bucks to walk 18 after 3 pm. Not a bad deal in the summer when it stays light long enough to get in all 18. 1/4/2007 1:13:50 PM |

You can't go wrong with either Crooked Creek or Eagle Ridge. Crooked Creek is pretty difficult and has some awesome holes, and Eagle Ridge is cool because of the GPS. 1/4/2007 4:27:23 PM |
