all bad things aside
some fans are thankful that we had something to believe in... it had been a while
Chuck took NCSU to another level and I think we should be grateful at least for that

Yeah, but Chuck will be remembered as a failure, that 75% of his success was due to Rivers, after Rivers, it was proven he was a phoney, and that he couldnt coach.

Statement from Chuck Amato:
“When I came to North Carolina State University, I set my dreams very high,” said Amato. “My vision was to take this program to places that it had never been before in 100-plus years of playing football. We really don’t know how long or how difficult it is to be able to attain those types of goals because we’ve never been there before in football.
“I didn’t come here to use this job as a stepping stone like many others have or could. I wanted to surround myself with people who would help me stretch my vision and not choke my dreams. This is obviously a disappointing decision for me, but I would never do anything to hurt North Carolina State University. This season was a big disappointment but I’m very proud of what I accomplished during my tenure. I believe that my relentless persistence and my passion have brought an enthusiasm, an energy and an emotion that couldn’t be equalled. Those same qualities are just as strong in me today as they were the first day I took this job. I haven’t lost my passion, my will to succeed, or my joy.” 11/26/2006 10:08:45 PM |

I feel bad for Chuck Amato the man, but not for Chuck Amato the coach. Chuck Amato the man was a fiery person that loved NC State about as much as any one of us, and went to great lengths to get other people to believe in Wolfpack Football. Chuck Amato the coach was an average at best coach who could recruit his ass off, and whose teams more often than not came out on the losing end of any given 50-50 situation for any number of reasons.
As so many people said for Herb Sendek - Amato could only take us so far. It makes me a little sad that a fellow Wolfpacker had to be a casualty in our quest for a top tier football program, but it boils down to meeting the goals we set out for the program. If we hire Coach XYZ, and he takes us to a National Championship in 5 or 10 years, we have Amato to thank for laying the groundwork and getting us one part of the equation in place.
For anybody that can sit there behind your keyboard and say that you hate Amato, and are glad he's gone, please put your life in perspective. He put his heart out there on his sleeve and came home to try and do what he could for all of us and for the university that we all love. It sucks that he wasn't the one who could get us to the top. 11/26/2006 10:31:44 PM |

^ no doubt
like everybody rational has been saying, what would NC State be now without Amato, we haven't been taken seriously in a while, and Amato brought alot of clout with him, a swagger we needed.
Unfortunately, that swagger got to alot of our players heads and made us play like boneheads, but you take the good with the bad.
At the very least, people can say we're better off now than before he came here. without him, would we have sent 5 players out in the first round? be seen as a threat? have the recruiting power we had?
I wish him well 11/26/2006 10:37:42 PM |

^^^ and ^^ posts are good.
Chuck did so many good things for this football program, but he killed himself on the field with the lack of discipline and "swagger" that the players take too far and start looking stupid. You can't talk trash when you're the one getting stomped at the end of every game.
I wish Chuck the best, but I think this is the right decision for the program.
^if you wanna be a faggot and kick a guy when he's down, be my guest. But nobody wanted to win more than chuck, nobody wants what is best for this university or the football team more than chuck, and chuck was the one that got everyone excited about NC State football again. He's a victim of his own success right now...basically b/c he couldnt live up to his own expectations and the expectations the HE HIMSELF...to his own admission....created. Chuck is a good guy and doesnt deserve to be treated like a Jerk. It would be nice if our fans could respect the guy after he lost his job.

I felt worse for Herb because I think he endured a lot more criticism than Chuck.
I feel a different sadness for Chuck because he's an alum. I know I'd feel bad if I went back to coach my school and failed.
I wish both coaches the best of luck wherever they go. However, I don't know what's next for Amato. I can't see this being anything but a pretty big fuck-up on his resume. He could be relegated to a lifetime as an assistant coach now. 11/26/2006 11:34:58 PM |

I feel bad for Chuck. He had a lot of passion for this university, often referring to it as "this great university". He really cared for the players, and tried to make them feel as much like family as possible. He seemed very personable in real life. I remember walking into Amedeo's one day and seeing him. He looked at me and said "Hey how's it going." I'm sure he didn't remember me from going to like 2 of his radio shows, or being one of the 50 some odd thousand people in the stands for nearly every game. He knew I was a student, and tried to be nice to one of the people that are what this university is all about. I wish him luck in the future, and would love to see him not even worry about money and just retire here, and maybe stay around the program. 11/26/2006 11:59:59 PM |

When I think of how bad I feel for Herb and Chuck....I think that Herb decided to leave....so I let the door hit him in the ass on the way out.
Chuck is one of us, and I wanted to see him succeed as much as anyone. I feel bad that he couldnt get it done, and I wish it didnt have to be like this. He was fired.
Both put up with a lot of criticism...but I feel way worse for Chuck b/c he wore it all on his sleeve when it came to NC State.
