It looks like RoadRunner Lite from TWC only cost $24.99/month for 768Kbps download speed, which is roughly 96KBps download speed.
I was thinking about it, and I really don't need a 5Mbps connection to the internet any more.
Is anyone using RR Lite? 11/30/2006 12:29:06 AM |

^^^ you and I both know that RR speeds do not necessarily meet their posted amount
^^ normal RR speed is 5Mbps or 640KB/s download speed, which I cant even max out at my current RR connection. I only come close when downloading torrents, and even then I only hit ~550KB/s at peak when downloading porn
I cant see any reason not to switch down to a lower RR speed since I don't take advantage of the highspeed often enough to justify it 11/30/2006 9:38:56 AM |

I use it at home. It works fine for me. I don't see any difference in regular browsing. 11/30/2006 9:50:05 AM |

I guess the question is, is the ratio of what you get with Lite to the advertised speed the same as the ratio of what you get with standard to its advertised speed? Or would you still be able to get in the 550Kbps range (this is also about the most I get with torrents) since its still under the advertised 768Kbps? 11/30/2006 11:13:35 AM |

^I think you're confusing KB with Kb. At least I hope you are. If your torrents are maxing out at 550 Kb a second there's something wrong. Or torrents have started sucking a lot more since I stopped using them.
And to the OP, I know all about theoritical vs. actual download speed.
But no matter how you cut it, 768/8 is exactly 96 every time. I was just making a joke. ] 11/30/2006 11:20:35 AM |

^^ KBps = kilobytes per second, Kbps = kilobits per second, and KBps != Kbps
same goes for MBps vs. Mbps
standard Roadrunner gives you 5Mbps down, which is 5 megabits per second, or 640 kilobytes per second
I may make the call tonight to switch, and see what the cost difference is 11/30/2006 11:33:08 AM |

We're thinking about doing the earthlink switch from roadrunner. How long are you usually without service when you switch?
I'm assuming that you have to cancel roadrunner first, then wait for the earthlink (which is serviced by TWC) to come out with a new cable modem and get everything up. Is this correct? 12/1/2006 7:51:52 AM |

what will the RR lite do to online game play for XBOX 360? 12/1/2006 1:12:46 PM |
El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
Online gaming is all about response times and not bandwidth. You won't notice any difference between regular road runner and the lite version when it comes to gaming on Xbox Live or any other type of gaming for that matter. Where you will notice the huge difference is when you're downloading those demos/patches/videos.] 12/1/2006 4:03:19 PM |

I've had it for about a year now. You'll notice a difference in high bandwidth browsing like google maps and youtube, but for me it is tolerable.
The main issue I have is remote desktoping into my machine from work, etc. The 128kbps upstream really lags for anything graphical. I have to really think before I click on something so that the connection doesn't freeze up.
I'll probably go back to normal roadrunner the next time I need to do something bandwidth intensive for a considerable amount of time. 12/6/2006 12:04:09 PM |

i called & whined a little about needing incentive to not change ISP (road runner lite 786Kbps for $25 was slower than DSL & I could switch to Clearwire for $20 month & get twice that RRlite speed)..
she had to talk to her supervisor & i had to wait a while on the phone but they restored my internet back to normal 5Mb speed & gave me a year's promotional pricing of $29.95 month.
