Make sure radio is enabled on both the NIC and the router. Have you tried other networks? Have you reset the router? Have you tried to update the router? Have you tried a wired connection to the router?

a wired connection will not be possible as the router/modem is in a different room from the pc

all the other networks in my range are locked so i can not try them. Im carrying my laptop home tonight to see if it will connect to my network.

i hit the little reset pin button but it didnt seem to do anything

im a noob at networking so "Make sure radio is enabled on both the NIC and the router" is greek to me

in other words, unless you explain it like you are talking to a 8 year old, im not going to understand

thanks in advance for the help, i will greatly appreciate

thats worth a shot.

also try it without WEP security for a couple days to see if it acts any different.

try a new channel too.

ok, my pc is a POS

what is the deal with this? can you smart guys/girls give me a some insight?

my wireless connection shows that i am connected in the tray at the bottom and i have an IP address. The problem is im not receiving any packets.

ipconfig doenst show a dns suffix and i can not connect to the dhcp.

ive checked all my connections and settings and everything seems correct. This is what i did last:

ipconfig /release
power down PC and unplug from wall

power down and uplug routher

power down and uplug modem including the coax cable from the wall

powered down for 20 - 30 minutes and boot up in the reverse order....mode/router/PC

what am i doing wrong or does it seem that it may be on TWC's side?

i've always shut everything down, plugged in networking equip in reverse order, then turned on pc

so unplug everything and wait about a minute

plug in switch (if using)
plug in router, wait 30 seconds
plug in modem, wait 30 seconds

then turn on pc

you could always do a hard reset on the router, and start from scratch

whats the model # of your router?

well the last line is default gateway, which is set in your router. if thats blank then you;re not connecting to the router...which is all bad.

you really need to do a hard reset on this thing...

and if you hard reset it, don't worry about the settings not being right...sounds like the settings are currently not right for whatever reason. after a hard reset the settings go to default and you should be able to connect to the internet. then you can tweak the settings how you want.

to hard reset:
http://www.hyperwrt.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=5458

If that doesn't work have the router plugged in, hold down the reset button for 30 seconds and release it (without plugging back in etc).

Note that these are general instructions, if you could get the exact model number off the bottom of your router we could provide more specific instructions (but these should work fine).

anyone else use the connection? if so does it work for them?

is there any way you wan plug directly into the modem (maybe using a laptop) and see if the internet works then?

i wouldn't mention the router when you call time warner...they'll say the problem is with it. say you plugged into the modem and it still didn't work.

haven't read the thread

but i'm assuming you've made sure the dhcp client service is started?
start>run>services.msc
DHCP Client>right click>properties.... make sure the startup type is set to automatic then press start

then disable and enable the connection or release and renew the IP

synapse, i appreciate all your help! im the only one using the connection. i dont own a laptop but a buddy does so i will see if he can bring it to my house. the router / modem is in the living area and my pc is wireless in another room. it will be a pain in the ass to plug directly in. but hey, worth a try
