Go fuck yourselves. We went 3-9 this year and have underachieved for a long time under chuck. What else do you want from a guy???
Obrien's record at BC: 1997 4 7 36.4% 1998 4 7 36.4% 1999 8 4 66.7% 2000 7 5 58.3% 2001 8 4 66.7% 2002 9 4 69.2% 2003 8 5 61.5% 2004 9 3 75.0% 2005 9 3 75.0% 2006 9 3 75.0%
Chuck would have a god damn life time contract if he had that record since 2000. 12/6/2006 5:42:54 PM |

I agree with this, but the SEC does it all the time. Hell, Alabama just tried to hire spurrier away from SC, and they also thought about going after Nutt at arkansas.12/6/2006 5:46:35 PM |

kind of funny though. who does this remind you of:
Quote : | "When he arrived at BC, the athletic department was reeling from a massive gambling scandal involving a number of football players. O'Brien did an admirable job returning respectability and integrity to the football program, and for his first 3 years at BC took baby steps towards returning the Eagles to a position of national relevance. We thank him for the job he did in those early years. But something funny happened on the way to the Orange Bowl. Around 2001, the progress grinded to a halt. Each year was the same as the last, a soft schedule, some disappointing losses, and a total inability to beat the top teams in our conference. Ultimately, the result was 7-9 wins and a win over an also-ran in a crummy bowl. Over the last 5 years, the frustrated few have grown to be a miffed multitude...as time has gone by, and BC has played more neutered, risk-averse football, more and more BC fans have realized that the emperor has no clothes. " |
my take: PJ >>>> TOB >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CTC

Well lets start with what BC fans think of him....
They have stated a nice website about him...
http://firetob.com/
All time record vs Temple, Rutgers, UConn, I-AA Schools, and any non-BCS program other than BYU or Boise State:
38 Wins 5 Losses
All-Time Versus All Other Schools: 37 Wins 39 Losses
Tom O'Brien all-time against the AP Top 25: 7 wins 21 losses
Tom O'Brien all-time against teams that finished the season in the AP Top 25: 4 wins 22 losses
TOB All-Time Conference Titles (9 years at BC): 0 (FireTOB.com does NOT recognize the 4-way tie he backed into with a 4-3 record in 2004...and if you do, you're a real thumbsucker)
....from BC fans.... 12/6/2006 5:48:08 PM |

i'm not real happy about this decision at all if it is final, but hell... we got us a new coach and he should do well here. boston is a pro-city with no love for the eagles. he will have the fan base and facilities here to do big things.
Go get em TOB 12/6/2006 5:49:41 PM |

^^exactly, you dont have to be thrilled about the decision, but at least respect the guy for what he's done. We would have killed to go 9-3 the past 3 years.

I really think that the "ceiling" O'Brien reached was BC's ceiling, not his own.
For instance, State's fanbase is not a hindrance to the team being invited to good bowl games. 12/6/2006 6:00:34 PM |

I guess here's my feelings on it.
You can win a Corvette (TOB) or a Ferrari Enzo (PJ).
Ordinarily, we'd all be going apeshitbananas if we won a Corvette. Somehow now it seems like a dissapointment.
TOB is a very good coach... I just think PJ was the sexier pick and had an enormous upside
I'll love the Corvette, but I still want the Enzo
I like T.O.B a lot... it could be a whoooole lot worse. I just want PJ
(Terrible analogy... I know)

well we made the sexy hire with Amato...look where that got us.
I personally dont think we can go wrong with PJ or with O'Brien, but O'Brien is proven at the BCS level with a Pro-style offense. I say if it came down to one of the two, take O'Brien. 12/6/2006 6:15:58 PM |

Winner.
People know that BCU football isn't A#1 in Boston but I don't think they understand just how far down the scrotum pole it is. NOBODY gives two shits about that program in Boston, it's a private school, and it's facilities aren't that great... BCU has a ceiling and it probably will never enjoy the success they had under TOB again.. People forget that in the 80's and even into the 90's they wanted to disband the football program there.. NC State on the other hand has the backing (both numberswise and financially) and the facilities to compete.

So let me get this straight...you all want a coach who is either a OC at a school who has never been a head coach or a head coach at a lesser-known school over a coach at an ACC school with a 75-45 record? Our fans are so shitty. O'Brien is a great coach who did that at possibly the worst school for football other than Duke. NOBODY goes to their games. 12/7/2006 12:40:14 AM |
