So I am trying to get one for my mom for christmas. She needs something that will have large clear lettering for song titles (she can not see good) and what not and very easy to use. She is pretty good with Windows media player too so I'm sure I could teach her how to sync with that or Itunes. I am trying to spend under 200 bucks but am willing to spend more if need be. Any suggestions?
Under 200 bucks Easy enough to use for a mom with basic pc skills Large, clear font 12/9/2006 5:00:29 PM |

best buy has insignia brand 2 gb mp3 photo video (mpeg4/wmv) with fm tuner, that blows the socks off of ipod in my opinion
easy to use all that, nice display, abot the size of nano mini (but about 1.5x or 2x thicker)
$99 gor 2gig version, 129? for 4 gig. all 4 gigs sold out in the 30 mile radius.
no i dont work for best buy

the insingnia sounds an awful like the sandisk sansa e200 series which i think it better than the nano. 1.8" screen, video,fm tuner, voice recorder, sd slot , user replaceble batery. if u don't mind buying 1 used i'm actually seling my 6gb version for cheap and i'll load it up w/ music(i have like 120gbs of music) so she doesn't have to dl anything. 12/10/2006 7:42:27 PM |

i thought the wheel on the sansa felt really cheap and was not comfortable to scroll 12/10/2006 8:31:11 PM |

ever considered a phone w/ mp3 player? the fonts are pretty large and so is the screen. The sony ericsson w810i is nice b/c it has a button specifically for the walkman. You can probably get a student discount (or free with a 2 yr plan). Just a suggestion. 12/11/2006 11:46:51 AM |

what i want in my portable player - easy mini-USB connector without adapters and all that, for wall-charging and PC sync - driverless recognition on PCs, at least for basic file transfer functionality - no touch scroll bullshit like the zen m or ipods have. tactile buttons with good click feedback so it's easy for me to find something. i kind of like the zune's buttons. - very thin - at least 30gb - nice screen for videos - widescreen is a plus. i like the vision's screens. - able to play mpeg4 (divx, xvid), mpeg2, mpeg1 at least - able to play audio by folders - ID3 tag grouping is a plus
i haven't found one that can do all that yet. i'm holding out til i do. 12/11/2006 3:31:39 PM |

the zune is made by toshiba
check out the gigabeat s if you like the zune - it's a little slimmer
but yeah, for 4gb, i'd definitely go with something like the insignia or sansa

You can get the 2gb version for about 30-40 less.

^^ i haven't played with the gigabeat personally. but i'd assume the zune was better. it's sort of the next version of the gigabeat. i just can't stand how thick the zune is
i dunno - might even go as far as to say i could handle bad software for a slimmer player
