brasa

I've never been, but if the owners of Rio run it like they run Crazy Fire, you do not want to eat there. Sanitation issues, not waitstaff/managerial crap.

rio all the way.

brasa is NOT worth what you pay.

I got to rio about once a month and never get tired of it. the salad bar is almost as awesome as the meat. calamari, ceviche, salmon, shrimp salsa, palm hearts, etc.

we've been to brasa and it was AMAZING, but we didn't have to pay for it so I don't know about $$. haven't been to rio but the reviews on it are poor and most ppl i know who have been hated it, said it was too crowded, and the meat smelled funny.

I have been to both multiple times.

I liked Rio better. My fiance liked Brasa.

Plan on spending several hours at whatever place you choose. Usually we spend about three-four hours with a few 15 minute smoke breaks.

[Edited on December 11, 2006 at 12:58 PM. Reason : If I remember correctly, RIO was abou 25 per person (without alcohol)]

Ok look.

Between the Brazilian place at Brightleaf square and Brasa, I always choose the drive to Durham.

Brasa has a terrible, heavy stench to it that it simply doesn't need to have. The place in Durham not only appears more upscale, but their buffet offers finer meals and they bring fried bananas, mashed potatoes and cheese bread to your table.

go to chamas in durham. seriously. you'll fucking love it!

first time i went, my friend and i didn't realize it was an upscale place. he was in jeans and t-shirt and i was in shorts, t-shirt, and wearing rainbows. we were just hungry as fuck, and decided we should get something in brightleaf square (trendy commercial area). we walked in, and the hostess didn't say shit. as she was taking us to our table we noticed everyone was well dressed, and there was a bitchin' room full of wine. no one gave us any shit for how we were dressed, and i didn't notice anyone staring. our waiter was cool as fuck. the food was dank as fuck. a+++++ restaurant.

it's like $17 for just the salad buffet, and $28 if you want meat too. and all the meat is fucking perfect. seriously. the wine selection is kinda pricey though, but they're cool with you bringing your own. i don't remember how much the cork service is though. i think it was like $8.

I went to Brasa with a company party this week and it was very good, but not what I had built it up in my head to be... I doubt I'll ever go back if I have to pay for it.

why Christine said that Rio has sanitation issues I don't know, but that's a crock of shit. I work at the Rio in MacGregor Village and that place is very clean. Our current score is a 95 and before that it was over 100. And while I don't work at the Rio in N. Raleigh, I know the cooks (cause they came from our store) and some of the waitstaff and there are no sanitation issues over there either.

With that said, Brasa and Rio are under the same ownership, the only difference is the atmosphere. Rio is more casual, and a bit more laid back, whereas Brasa is more upscale and costs a bit more. Brazilian steakhouses aren't for everybody. If you want to go on a date and sit in a corner booth and be left alone for the majority of the meal, it probably isn't for you. If you want all you can eat meat and cold buffet and a fun, interactive dinner, you'll probably have a wonderful time.

I didn't see much of a difference between Rio and Brasa, other than the price

I love that they both have the grilled cinnamon and sugar pineapple, because that is fantastic

How much are the ones in Raleigh? The one I ate at on Monday was $56.95 or some shit just for the food, nevermind the drinks & dessert.

Dinner at Rio (in Cary, MacGregor Village)- $24.95 is the price for anyone 12 and over that wants unlimited cold buffet and meats.
You can also add on an 8 oz. cold water lobster tail to your meal if you like.

35 items on the cold bar including salads, seafood, cheeses, etc
includes bread and side dishes: mashed potatoes, rice, and black beans
12 cuts of meat: 5 cuts of beef, 3 cuts of pork, 3 cuts of chicken, and leg of lamb
cinnamon and sugar pineapple

does not include drinks or dessert

Full service bar including draft and bottle beer, martinis, caiparinhas (Brazil's national drink made with cachaca, limes, and sugar on the rocks), and a wine list featuring wine from South America, California, Australia and more

lunch is $9.95, Monday to Friday, and includes a slightly smaller cold buffet (about 25 items), sides, pork sausage, chicken breast wrapped in bacon, filet mignon wrapped in bacon, and one or two rotating hot dishes like chicken cacciatore, beef stroganoff, etc.

Is Rio fanciful enough to go for Valentines day (not actually on the 14th) or should I go with Brasa? My lady really liked a brazillian steakhouse we went to in Greensboro so I was planning on going to another one.

Not looking for something necessarily upscale but somewhere where we wouldnt have to share a table with other people and I wouldnt look silly with a tie [would be a bonus].

[Edited on January 25, 2007 at 1:40 PM. Reason : I still plan on going to one or the other regarless]

it's definitely fanciful enough for a v-day date with or without a tie

Brasa is bigger, and a little bit more upscale ($10 per person)
Rio is smaller and more intimate, a little bit cheaper. But you could get some lobster and/or a nice bottle of wine and make it as upscale as you want.

It's really your call, but I know we (Rio) have lots of two-person tables for this type of occasion. Either way, make your reservation soon!
