Our instructor wants a powerpoint presentation, narrated, with a 15MB size limit.

That narration? 12-15 minutes. Zipped, our file is 85MB. Wolfware will only accept 8MB files.

if it's picture heavy, compress it. open the presentation, right click on one of hte images and click format picture. the compress button is within that set of options. make sure you click "resize all images"

12-15 minutes of narration sounds like 10 slides or so, tops. What the hell are you putting in there that makes it 85MB zipped?

if you've got any transitions, animations, or stuff like that, strip them out until all that's left is the actual content.

compress the audio

if it's just voice - 56kbps, 22khz, mono
it doesn't sound bad at all and it'll cut your file size down a lot

if it's due tonight and you can't get in touch with the prof and still can't get it within the 8megs, i'd do something like take the audio out so it's below 8megs and add 1 slide to the beginning that explains your problem - couldn't get file size with audio narration down to wolfware's limits which was only 8mb despite your 15mb size limit. so we uploaded it here: tinyurl.com/sakdjasd."

upload it to transferbigfiles.com or some other hosting space and give it a tinyurl. i say transferbigfiles because it will show him a date and time it was uploaded if he ever questions if you had it done on time. (it doesn't show the actual upload date/time but it can be inferred by some subtraction)

Nope.
Compressing the pictures only took out 5MB.

We have 8 pictures.
The voice recordings are at the lowest I could do on my computer - 10kb/s.

^How? Neither I nor my boyfriend have found a way.

I think she'd view it less favorably than just an email saying 'uh...'

And, of course, I can't get hold of either group member.

I'm still trying to decide whether to email her for further instructions, or call her 'emergency' number. It must be something we did wrong; otherwise, she'd have emailed the class about something this important.


I just spoke with her. She said I needed to go to the DML and get their help. :-\

15 mins of lo-fi audio - at most 6mb
19 powerpoint slides with text and transitions - at most 3mb

your file cannot be 80mb - it's impossible.

You can also save file as... PPS - powerpoint show file... it will strip all the unnecessary file editing info

Just make sure you save a PPT for you so you can edit it later if needed.

NO image should be over 200KB EACH... that's roughly a 1024x768 image at 90% quality which is PLENTY for web/presentation quality.

15 min. of 10KB/s quality sound = ~9MB

I don't see how it's 85MB either...

It's very possible. The original size was 127MB.

i don't see how it is that much either you must have accidentally uploaded something you can not currently see or hear but is saved with your power point. I would start from scrap and copy and paste each slide save and check size then copy and paste each sound and check size then pictures and check size. Then you can find your culprit.

Is your naration in raw .wav format? I mean rather than trying to record at really low quality maybe you could try recording a medium or high quality wav file and convert it to a low bitrate mp3.

I've gotten the .wav files out of the presentation, and I'm trying to figure out how to turn them into mp3s, but once that's done, I don't know how to put them back into the presentation
