Quote :
"When I raise my hand to take the oath on Swearing In Day, I will have the Bible in my other hand. I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way. The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran. We need to stop illegal immigration totally and reduce legal immigration and end the diversity visas policy pushed hard by President Clinton and allowing many persons from the Middle East to come to this country. I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America and to prevent our resources from being swamped.

The Ten Commandments and "In God We Trust" are on the wall in my office. A Muslim student came by the office and asked why I did not have anything on my wall about the Koran. My response was clear, "As long as I have the honor of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, The Koran is not going to be on the wall of my office." Thank you again for your email and thoughts.

Sincerely yours,
Virgil H. Goode, Jr."

Seems like I'd want them swearing on the Koran (sp?) rather than the Bible. I mean, we want them to swear on a Holy Book to them.

it's disgusting because he's showing himself to be an intolerant, racist, arrogant, ignorant redneck - and he's one of the dumb fucks who represent us in Congress. If he wants to swear on the Bible, fine. nobody's stopping him. But if the bible doesn't happen to be the holy book of another representative, it's none of his business. Just because one representative swears upon the Koran doesn't impend on Goode's right to "have the Bible in [his] other hand". The whole swearing on a Bible/Koran/Torah/Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is all for show anyway - it doesn't have anything to do with making an oath of office more or less legitimate. Maybe he should brush up on the Constitution a bit, specifically Article VI, paragraph 3:
Quote :
"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

not to mention, Goode is using this issue as a tool for his own agenda on immigration reform, when immigration has nothing to do with the issue at hand. "The Muslim Representative from Minnesota", Keith Ellison, is not an immigrant - he's an African-American with ancestors in the US back to the 1700's and was a Muslim convert in college. He's not a "person from the Middle East" who's here to "took 'ur jobs" or try to turn the country into an Islamic state.

Christians are not obligated to pay lip service to religious viewpoints which are considered blasphemous. In effect, why are some of you trying to force the muslim faith onto Mr. Goode? He is morally obligated to not serve 2 masters. But he's a Christian so I guess it's ok.

I love the double standard here - it's perfectly fine to force Christians to accept other religions, but Heaven forbid if you dare wish somebody a Merry Christmas or put up a nativity scene.

jesus jumping christ. I 2nd ^ - wtf are you talking about.

This has nothing to do with forcing one's religion upon another. Congressman Ellison took his oath of office on a Koran. That's it. period. end of story. Or at least it should have been. But Goode was the one who decided to take it upon himself and make a big fucking deal out of it. Show me one place where Ellison has made any effort to force another representative to swear upon, touch, or even look at his Koran. In fact, show me anywhere where Kieth Ellison has been anything but passive, accepting and humble regarding the slander that he's endured since he was elected, including this display from Goode and the earlier, extremely insulting, interview he had with Glenn Beck on CNN.

He is talking about barring immigration into the US by mulsims and people from middle eastern countries. That has nothing to do with his personal faith.

I would like you to explain exactly what makes him ignorant (what is he uneducated about?), racist (what race is he against again? thought this had to do with religion), and most importantly what makes him a redneck?

sounds like you just looked up every PC bullshit term that makes all the kiddies feel good to throw aroudn these days and applied them...ignorantly!

I thought you people had a problem with Mr. Goode's whole response, which included his decision to not put up quotes from a blasphemous book.

Personally, I don't really care what book Ellison takes his oath on, within reason. Goode is well within his rights to object to his own personal use of the Koran. I do not advocate using the Koran in any way either, and why should I?

Given the fact that at least 1 well known terrorist was educated in the United States only to use his knowledge against this country, I can see where Mr. Goode would be greatly concerned about the influx of muslims. Look how they're destroying Europe, with the riots over the depiction of Muhammad or the Muslims who rioted in France earlier this year. Rapes at the hands of muslim men are way up in Europe as well. Blind acceptance for the sake of diversity and openness is just completely stupid. I have news for ya - muslim extremists would just as rather see a dead san franciscan hippie homosexual as they would a decent hardworking middle class american.

i have no problem with him not putting anything remotely Muslim up on his wall. Furthermore, I think it was a.... questionable question from the Muslim student - it should have been pretty obvious that Goode was Christian. However, the quote makes no indication that the student expected Goode to supplement his "In God We Trust" with a "Allah is the best" poster or whatever. If the student had expected that, it would have been an unreasonable expectation.

I can think of plenty of terrorists that were educated in the United States.

The simple fact of the matter is that discriminating on people based on their religion is fundamentally unconstitutional.

Did you not read what Mr. Goode wrote? Here's a recap for ya, since you missed it:

are you saying that a san franciscan hippie homosexual is of no value to society? Also, no one is proposing that we allow militant islamists into America.

And you are very correct in your assertion that at least 1 well known terrorist was educated in America. His name was Timothy McVeigh and another fellows name is Ted Kaczynski'

You have wackos in every society. So 2 examples from the hundreds of millions of Americans who have been educated is a trend? Besides, I could only think of one example of this happening. Who knows about the countless nameless underlings in the al quada ranks that have not been exposed.

Why educate foreign muslims to begin with, when it's generally accepted that the United States is widely hated and despised by those who live in the middle east.

Good Lord. The rapes in Sweden have gone up because of the influx of muslims into their country. The Swedish have a lax immigration policy. Goode has advocated a stronger anti-immigration policy for muslims. I cited Sweden of an example of what could happen here in the United States if our policy was or remained more lax than it already is.

^^ I guess that's easy to say when nobody would touch 95 percent of your women with a 20 foot pole unless it had a knife on the end of it.

Besides, any woman, regardless of race or whatever, is fair game if they're not dressed in a way that doesn't tempt the man. Turning this into a white race uber alles issue is completely stupid and misses the point.

Why is this shocking and distrubing?

Because couple this statement with what our good friend Robin Hayes just said:

Quote :
"Stability in Iraq ultimately depends on spreading the message of Jesus Christ, the message of peace on earth, good will towards men. Everything depends on everyone learning about the birth of the Savior"

Quoted by the Concord Standard and Mount Pleasant Times in a recent speech in his hometown, however that paper does not have the specific article online. It is only in print.

This quote by Goode is disgusting, and I welcome the day when bigotry and hate like this is extingiushed from mankind.

What are you people going to do when we elect a Buddist? Or gods help you an atheist?

It's not a shot at Catholics, per say, moreso a shot at a poster who wears the church on his sleeve and then goes and spews junk like he does about keeping out the Muslims so they dont rape our women. Remember that whenever him or 2K posts.

^^ From an individual point of view, I think Rep. Hayes is correct. Spreading the gospel of Jesus is the best way to preserve world peace and good will towards others.

I would not advocate our government doing this, however. But from his own personal point of view, there is nothing wrong or "dark ages" about it.

PinkandBlack, I bet you're of the opinion that women who are raped had what was coming to them then, because if you're blind enough to ignore the rise of rapes in Europe at the hands of muslim men for the sake of diversity or whatever other liberal iconic belief you embrace today then I truly feel sorry for the women of this country if your other political pols reflect your values.

I'm of the school of thought that the punishment for the crime should be enough of a deterrent. A man who rapes a woman deserves the severest one possible within the bounds of what is defined as torture.
