Me too, got to get the miles in. I kinda wish the path had lights so I could run there after work this time of year.

Lake Johnson blows unless you are trying to get in some hill repeats. Umstead ftw!

I ran lake johnson for the first time a few weeks ago ... I thought I ran a good 5 miles or so because I was about to die- but then I realized I only ran the small loop of 2.84 (or whatever it is)....that was sorta depressing

Lake Johnson is nice just because it is close. I don't care for the asphalt and there are always a lot of people there though. I much prefer Umstead, Falls Lake, Haw River, etc. when I have time to drive.

[Edited on December 28, 2006 at 12:27 PM. Reason : well i think 1 is missing but still]

How far is it if you just walk around the big circle asphalt trail?

^2.85 miles, although the hills on the back side of the lake make the course seem a lot longer.

There's a small loop on the backside of the lake where the hills start. 2.84 if you take the longer way around the loop, 2.75 if you take the shorter.

I enjoyed living at the Summit because of how close it was to lake johnson, but I never got in a routine of walking out there. I guess I preferred to use elliptical trainers at the gym, and Lake Johnson wasn't convenient to ride a bike around because of all the people with dogs on long leashes.

It's a lake. What is there to be appreciative about? There are tons of them. Everywhere. It's not like you need a lake to go running or biking. Plus the misquotoes (sp? don't care) are horrible in the summer on the backend near Lake Park..

I used to go out there on the dirt path at night with my gf in high school and do dirty things. Once we got caught in this freakish thunderstorm. It was awesome.

I have a QUESTION!!

I run the paved trail towards the dam, does anybody know where the start is for those mile markers? Like where is mile zero? Is it the start of the asphalt trail?

The starting mile marker has been missing since they redid that whole area a few years ago. It used to be somewhere around the bulletin sign by the picnic shelter.

The 1.25 is also missing, and 2.75 should be somewhere on the bridge.

saw a guy fall down one of the hills on the back stretch today

He was running fast and didnt slow on the decline and tumbled like 15 feet.

I was like 50 feet away and was gonna check if he was alright but he popped right back up and kept running

Also my right arm is still numb as I type since my dumb ass ran in a tank top today
