short pin 14 to ground (13 should be ground)
[Edited on January 2, 2007 at 2:50 AM. Reason : this should work for any ATX psu]
[Edited on January 2, 2007 at 2:53 AM. Reason : pin 14 is an active-low on]

I don't think he is the man, he didn't bother to read the first post ("even though it's a standard plug the pins are completly different") and continued to insist that you try ATX standard pinout. Dell used non-standard pinouts for some of their power supplies, with ATX connectors. You can find the pinout by searching for "dell atx pinout"-- half-way down the page of the first result, amazingly enough. I'm not even sure the grounds are the same, so the information he provided was basically worthless and you're pretty lucky you didn't blow a fuse or the PSU, there are several pins that have standby voltage and shorting them to ground or eachother can be a bad thing to do.

In fact, according to that pinout you are a righteously lucky motherfucker. He instructed you to short pin #14 (GND) to damn near every pin but #6 (5VSB), which would have caused teh fireworks. #11 (PS_ON) is the pin you're looking for, but you apparently know that already.
