whitening strips by Crest work great. Granted its a pain in the ass to remember to use them twice a day but they still work well even when you forget and end up using them once every two days 1/3/2007 10:55:53 PM |

I received a sample of Gosmile and really liked it. Its about $90 for a 7 day treatment. At skinstore.com, you can often save 10-15% with a "favorites" coupon. Might be more than you want to put into whitening.
You can drink out of straws to help prevent surface stains. 1/3/2007 11:12:21 PM |

man, those crest whitestrips smell like ass, and the way they are set up you cant put one in your mouth without getting the gel everywhere else, and the gel too, tastes like ass 1/4/2007 12:40:11 AM |

Tried the white strips. DROOLED like a sonofabitch! They also slide around. Very annoying. Gave up after 1 day. I'd rather pay my dentist $100 than mess with $30 white strips. 1/4/2007 12:54:11 AM |

I used one of those 20/30 dollar Rembrant whitening kits before I had some pictures made and it worked out very well. It has a form that you warm up in hot water so you can mold it to the shape of your teeth. Then you go through a process of like 20 minutes on and 10 minutes off (?). I just spent a Saturday afternoon at home reading/watching tv and whitening my teeth. I didn't even see a need to use the full treatment, so I have a few more to freshen up my smile with later. 1/4/2007 8:25:12 AM |

I really liked the results from Crest Whitestrips, too. Granted, they WERE a pain the butt... but I only used them once a day before I went to bed and I still got just as killer results.
I think for the safest and probably longest-lasting you should go with a professional treatment from your dentist. I remember a few years back some of my mom's co-workers got a great package deal because a bunch of them went in together at once so the dentist gave them a referral type discount I guess. 1/4/2007 1:26:54 PM |

it makes your teeth more sensitive. it widens the pores that are already there. sometimes it's permanent (if your teeth are already sensitive, it'll make it MUCH worse).
they have DIY teeth whitening kits that have potassium (?) in them to reduce the effect of the peroxide, but it'll still happen. plus your gums will be irritated for a while after you use them. they use 10% peroxide for the home user, but the doc's use a higher dosage, but there is pretty much no chance for error.
the higher concentration bleaching kits have the capacity to cause permanent damage if used incorrectly/too long. shit will eat away at your enamel. that's not cool.
too many treatments in too short a period will also harm you.
baking soda is an abrasive that isn't good for your teeth for long term use. no whitening toothpaste should be used for long periods. any regular toothpaste should be good enough.
there is also a small percentage of the population whose teeth are resistant to bleaching.
i'd stay away from acidic juices/dark colored drinks to prevent any more staining (coffee, tea, juice, soda, etc...).

Nah, they're not harmful. Some people are especially sensitive to them but if you use them as directed they should be fine. 1/4/2007 3:30:04 PM |

I paid about $400 for my kit. Including the molding, bleach, etc
You have to wear them 4 hours a night though and its not all that comfortable to sleep in them.
haha i charged the $400 when the Spurs were up 2-0 on the Pistons in the finals.
The fucking series ended up going 7 games... if the Pistons had somehow won i woulda ended up paying 18% interest on that shit...
By the way, switch toothpaste to Sensodyne while you're bleaching. It will make your teeth way less sensitive and the whole process easier.

that listerine whitening works well, just swish before you brush. I think its basically peroxide, but tastes better. Takes a while to get results, but cheap and easy to remember to use. 1/4/2007 8:29:32 PM |

I used the 7 day crest white strips (can't remember if that's the official name...and I'm too lazy to look it up *grin*). I have very sensitive teeth to begin with, so it was only 1x day for me. Great results and I'm only now starting to see my teeth return to normal (these are temporary solutions)...granted, its been probably 3 or 4 years since I used them...so not bad, I'd say 1/4/2007 8:34:31 PM |

I hated the whitestrips, they never stay put and they'd be crunched up in my molars by morning
there's this liquid stuff you paint on, don't remember what it was called but it was great. Also you can be more precise, I had a stain on one tooth and was able to whiten that tooth only to match the others ] 1/4/2007 11:45:44 PM |

I only wore the white stripes for, oh gosh it was like 15-30 minutes (can't remember exact time) but it certainly was not overnight. Yeah you had to be careful because they'd move fairly easily, but geez do it right before bed (when you're in front of the computer or reading or something) and its not a problem. 1/5/2007 6:34:17 AM |

Seotaji All American 34244 Posts user info edit post |
the UV light that dentists use works REALLY well, but it'll make your shit 100x more sensitive than the DIY peroxide/pro stuff.
i know they use directed light, but some of your tissue gets exposed.

might want to take care of that bruxism first.
