I had a problem with most of my keys sticking, so I disconnected the keyboard and cleaned it with seltzer water, and it solved the problem. Now, then I start up, I either get a stuck key error, or it beeps and will not let me enter my password in the login screen. And ideas? 1/6/2007 1:29:12 PM |

Well my most computer-savvy friend said it would probably be ok as long as I kept it angled so the liquid ran off quickly. The soda didnt fuck it up, so I didn't see seltzer as being too bad of an idea. It's not a big deal if I have to get a new keyboard, because I would have done so anyway given the condition it was in. Now, anything useful?

My only suggestion would be to remove the keyboard again, remove all the keys, and thoroughly clean the keyboard using isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip. Let the keyboard dry (i.e. let it sit overnight) before putting it back in.
How did you make sure it was dry before you put it back in after giving it a seltzer water bath? 1/6/2007 7:00:34 PM |

To dry it, I set it on my TWC box for a couple days. I'm able to get into windows now, and the keys feel great, but something is still sticking occasionally. The cursor will skip from a text-box in Firefox into the URL window, causing it to flash rapidly until I press "L." In any case, I should have a new keyboard from IBM in a few days. 1/6/2007 8:49:45 PM |
