I have an external 200GB hard drive that was partitioned with NTFS. My friend connected it to his Linux box, which said it could not mount it. After this, I connected it to my Windows XP PC, which showed the volume as not partitioned. When i looked at the drive in Partitiononmagic, it showed the drive as having a "Type 07" file system. How do i get my files back?

Download Hiren's Boot CD and burn it to a disc. It has dozens of PC recovery tools including data recovery tools for situations like this.

i tried them, but i can;t seem to get my computer to boot to a CD (it has no floppy), and i have no windows utilities to use, they are all DOS

check your BIOS and make sure the optical drive is your first boot device

Hiren's Boot CD has utilities that can be run from within Wiondows. You don't HAVE to boot to it. If you want to boot to a CD you have to change your boot order in your system BIOS.

How retarded are you? Go to utorrent.com and download that if you don't already have a bittorrent client. Use the "Download this torrent" link here to get the torrent file for Hiren's Boot CD and open the torrent in utorrent: http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3587762 . Burn the ISO to a CD (or mount it using a utility like PowerISO). The CD automatically opens a menu when it is inserted. It includes the following data and partition recovery tools (some require you to boot from the CD, some do not):

Active Partition Recovery 3.0
